I'm not sure about putting the NAS in a proper raid array. Mostly because the discs are expensive, not inexpensive. Also I've got copies of everything already. Have you considered using a different RAID protocol, i.e. not RAID 1? Some are more efficient on disc space, and equally robust. |

Redundant array of expensive discs is the issue.
When I fill the NAS i'd go for RAED5 not RAID1.
So i'd get up to 30 TB of storage out of 4OTB total.

Mostly music. Some concert videos as well.
I will listen to some of it again.
It's been obvious for at least 25 years that I own some music I will not listen to again. Some of it because it turned out I don't like it particularly. Mostly though just things that never get top of the playlist. Some of it I have just forgotten about.
I do sometimes just play a random selection. It's surprising how good some stuff is I wouldn't actively pick.
That is one advantage of putting things on HD. At least there is a chance I might listen to them.
