I am quite a pretentious civilised person. I have been to the theatre more times than most some a few of you have seen superhero films. The first point is taken as read. I've never seen Shakespeare in the theatre. I have seen lots of musicals* though and lots of superhero films. *in a theatre.

I think I said before that my first proper paid employment was in a theatre aged 18. Sound tech. Monitoring radio mics, changing batteries, aerials etc.
Tremendous parties. Just tremendous.

A good production of a Shakespeare play in the theatre is ace. Not all of them are madly pretentious.
There is something fantastic about live acting right in front of you. They don't even have to be great actors. Theatres are great as well. A good old theatre is great. The best thing about the West End. I've not been to the Globe. I don't know why. I worked about 1/2 mile from it for awhile.

Morning!
Games chat: Another 5 hour long game streaming session last night that only ended at 1 a.m. Having finished the first chapter of Trails in the Sky the week before, yesterday was a nice palate cleanser in the shape of Astral Chain, a game that's sitting in my pile o' shame (and apparently in several other people's on the stream). It deserves better, as it's a terrific game that has it all: sexy and/or nerdy cops, creepy and/or cute mascots, cats, a toilet fairy, and a lovely sense of humour. Loads of fast-paced action and things exploding on screen. I'm looking forward to playing it myself as I clear out my backlog, so in about 10-12 years, maybe even sooner.
I made good progress to that effect with Xenoblade Chronicles, where I finally moved on the story after doing all available 237 side quests and hitting a new area where no doubt there will be plenty more side quests. This was preceded by the boss battle that had recently given me some trouble. Now, overlevelled from all the questing and with the right party composition, the fight lasted about 2 minutes. I then put on the auto-swim and did a lap of Eryth Sea. Once again the area that needs mapping is huge, so that took a while. Plenty of mean looking, high level enemies guarding the lovely beaches.

Theatre chat: when the PM was more mobile he and I used to see a number of RSC productions in Stratford. Our personal highlight was Hamlet with a South African theatre company: www.rsc.org.uk/hamlet/past-productions/janet-suzman-2006-production We were both Shakespeare enthusiasts anyway, but the South African element made the PM extremely happy, which I suppose is unusual for a tragedy. We'd also been to the Globe a few times. My brother came very close to studying drama, and both he and his PM are involved in amateur theatre. He's a regular at local theatre and opera productions. I wonder whether we met Sheep at the pub and/or the theatre in Stratford.

Saw. Not met. I've been to the RSC a few times. Not that many. The last time was at the Swan for something about Sarah Churchill. Not my choice, but it was quite good. I saw Kenneth Branagh as Hamlet in a four hour production there in the early 1990s. Bladder challenging. I used to go reasonably often in London for a while.
I am definitely feeling the lack of availability of culture over the last 15 months. I would not necessarily have gone to the theatre, but I need the option. I need to go to a heavyweight Shakespeare play I would have gone to several concerts.

I saw the RSC do troilus and cressida too - but at the Barbican. They did a complete run of Billy S over the course of a year, I got to see about 12 performances.
I also saw Mark Rylance in Twelfth Night at the Globe. I stood up like a pleb.
My favourite was Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman in Anthony and Cleopatra.

I went to the Globe once. Think it was Mark Rylance in Julius Caesar. My main memory is one brilliant hour followed by three hours of increasing desperation to sit down.

I could take or leave the theatre, really.
Slightly below the cinema. A bit above the telly.

That always put me off the Globe. Plays are rarely better if your legs and back ache. I don't mind standing at football. Though slumping back into the sear as you go 3-0 down at Preston is always an option.

I have been to a few plays, and some of those interactive theatre experiences.
The only play I remember thinking was great was this one with Derek Jacobi and Robert Lindsay, based on Thomas Beckett getting shanked in a cathedral.
Good. A good play. Very strong.

Carry on John Thomas? I thought it was Death in the Cathedral. But no play bearing that name exists. Then I thought it was Murder in the Cathedral. But apparently it wasn't that either. A quick internet search tells me it was just called 'Becket'. I was admittedly quite young at the time ...
