Speaking of children's birthday parties, there's one (I assume) going on in a nearby garden. I can hear children playing and laughing, a happy sound that I could listen to all day. Unfortunately I can also hear a woman trying to entertain them as the volume of her voice is several decibels above the noise from a whole bunch of kids. I'm getting flashbacks to Polly the Pirate, the entertainer who caused my grandchildren to cover their delicate ears because they didn't want to go deaf at a tender age.
It looks like it's going to rain here. With a bit of luck...

Tbf to us, the teachers husband eats meat as do both daughters.
I'm making a turkey mince chilli for dinner. I've gone a bit off-piste with the Cajun seasoning and put in a bit more. The child will be demanding vats of coo-juice at dinner.

This is the reason why Assyriologists were among the staff at Bletchley Park. It would take too long for me to explain the process of reading cuneiform. Luckily I don't have to because in 1973 Erica Reiner, one of the greatest Assyriologists of all times, wrote an article with the title " How we read cuneiform texts". If anyone is interested, here's a link: archive.org/details/HowWeReadCuneiformTexts/mode/2upAs far as Quordle is concerned, I have two starter words that complement each other, i.e. both will give me the full range of vowels plus some crucial letters in the English language, but I don't always get to use the second one if I feel that after the first line there's already enough information that can be combined with elements of the second word to make up a possible solution. It's important to pick out the word for which you have the most valuable information and work on it first; don't change your focus unless it so happens that the solution to another column becomes crystal clear. When I say "valuable information" I obviously mean vowels (including 'y', obviously) but also consonants that frequently form combinations like sh/ch/th, sp/st/sh/sc/sk/sn/sw/sm, ch/ck. The presence of L, R, and N is significant. Also think about frequent vowel combination. Generally avoid combinations of letters that are rare or impossible. But above all, never overlook information you've already obtained. Run all these elements through your mind and see whether they form words that will fit. These methods don't always work but they work most of the time. |
