Tbh/tbf I think a slightly jokey response to something like this, especially the wall to wall performative sombreness on telly, is not inappropriate and is actually quite characteristically british. It doesn't mean that is our only response, nor need it indicate disrespect.

Whatever people here think, the death of the Queen will upset a lot of people. You are correct Felice. I'm upset at what it's all going to cost. I am - but obviously that's me playing to the crowd. I've become slightly more pragmatic about the royals in my old age. I don't think they should exist, I don't think they should get the money they do, and they shouldn't get the coverage they do. In saying that, they are here - and they bring folk to the country who spend money. But then again, folk still visit the Palace of Versailles and we all know how the Frenchies dealt with them. A lot of the people who will be upset at her dying, who will go on about how good a person she was, never met her. They don't fucking know. And if she was such a good influence on the country how are we in the state we're in. Xenophobia as far as the eye can see. Anyway. How about those games? |

I never knew him. He was a constant in my life for 30yrs. Same thing. The same for some folk when Bobby Moore died. |

My Dad met the Queen when he was awarded his MBE, he was embarrassed about the pomp & circumstance of the whole thing. Still snaffled the gong, though.
