Back to work today. I think I still remember what to do… press a few buttons, more some files around, dial into the odd teleconference here and there…
Inset day for the boy, so I’m pretty much ensconced in the study while he tears around the house.
TVblog: DS9. And a bit of an SAS documentary on BBC4 - will try to watch the new action-drama-thing at some point.
Warhermitblog: a bit more work on my Ultramarines Terminators. Chest eagles finished, and now working on their helmets. You heard.

Is the header that bad? Please tell me. Because, at the moment, it has received no likes? No, it's fine, sufficiently diverting. But it's Halloween-themed, so on principle nobody over 30 and nobody with kids is going to be anything other then sneering and mildly annoyed. This may not be true of Scottish Americans, or something. Edit: and Amipal. Obviously Amipal. He probably fucking enjoys being a good parent or whatever the fuck. |

I know plenty of Scots went to America to help run plantations, and we were involved in building ships to be used as blockade runners during the American War of Independence.
But if you're telling me it's our fault for Halloween becoming huge then that's a step too far.
Anyway, as I want to slap into the child it's not Trick or Treat. You're not called Britneee and you don't live in a John Hughes movie.
You're Scottish. It's either going guising or going on Galoshins.
It's a losing battle though.

It's been hijacked from the people and turned into a money spinner like Christmas. No reason we shouldn't take it back; but I am as much interested in critiques / suggestions for the headers per se. As for All Hallows Eve, or Halloween, it's basically an American tradition that tv and film has gradually sneaked into the greedy little minds of small children of all ages! My father disliked this import so much that he used to rant for hours about it. So I have never participated in the sweet mugging that goes on around here. But I have been happy to adopt the more sinister aspects for the headers |

Always amused/irked by the annual hand-wringing in the G about Halloween being an import from America, since it has a long history in many parts of the British Isles that aren't the south of England. The kids round here go guising pretty much the same as we did in the early 80s. It's not as if these festivals have a clear or single origin anyway. There are references to people partying in cemeteries on all hallows eve in sources written a thousand years ago, on the continent.
