Back in the day i wanted a vaguely amusing user name for the Guardian. But I decided on Sheep2 instead.
It amuses me every time sheep or sheeple is used as an insult. I didn't want to be Sheep1 as a sheep should not be a leader.

A favourite character in a book series I really liked.

Software on the Amiga was sometimes prefixed with “Ami”. I nabbed that, and stick my initials on the end. BAM! And thus a legend was born.

Scubar more than usual Scubar beyond belief. I presume that you name was a play on Fubar. Not that you care, but it actually came from being interested in scuba diving when I first used it, and wanted something that sounded more like a name. Then shortly after, I discovered it was a shitty nightclub in Manchester, but I’ve stuck with it since. How did everyone come up with their names? Mine's the name of my teddy bear...

A favourite character in a book series I really liked. And I was close to choosing JacktheBodiless, but typing that in many times was going to be a pain!

How did everyone come up with their names? You must have been on holiday when this came up. I was more deaf than I realised 25 yrs ago watching Pulp Fiction.

Mine is based on a portmanteau on the popular dinosaur of yore the Ankylosaur and the phrase 'dank' referring to dank weed, with an added 420 at the end for emphasis. I don't like weed

My username is somewhat similar to my actual name - I somehow ended up on a junk mailing list offering "Mr Muffrat" discounted Stannah stair lifts and double glazing and suchlike, and I kept it because its funny

I lost access to my original Guardian log-on, so I wanted to use that opportunity pick a name with a cool story behind it that I could reveal when asked about it 14 years later on a message board.
Cool story.

I had the internet name of "Openquin" for a long time because I misspelt Penguin.

Named after the film of the same name. Can't remember where I first used it, but I added the 54 as Destry was already taken as a username and 54 is both the year I was born and the year the film came out.
I later discovered that my preferred version of the film (starring James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich) was called Destry Rides Again and came out in 1939. The 1954 version was just called Destry and starrred Audie Murphy.
Cool story I'm sure you'll agree.

I used to call myself ‘RandyHotnose’. I can’t say why for sure. I was reading the Guardian Gamesblog Chatterbox and, for some reason, got this idea that the poster calling himself ‘RiffMagus’ was actually the brother of one of my friends. I wanted to discover the truth and there was something about the name ‘RandyHotnose’ that seemed appropriate. It was ‘Randy’ as in ‘Randy Newman’ rather than Randy ‘sex-wise’. The ‘Hotnose’ may have been because it alluded to the nosiness I was feeling with respect to RiffMagus’s true identity …
After a while I began to think ‘This RandyHotnose just isn’t me.’ I began to think that the things I was posting were just what someone called RandyHotnose might say. I had to choose a name I felt better about.
When I first got a mobile phone a friend of mine sent me a message early one day saying ‘Wake up! Lazybones. Hehe.’ It made me laugh. Calling myself ‘Lazybones’ also alluded to the fact that I was maybe being a bit lazy in a work sense because I should have been doing work rather than posting on the Chatterbox ….

That was why I called myself ‘Lazybones’.
Why I called myself ‘lazybones’ on here is a whole other story.

I used to find it amusing how the commentators would be rushing along in Japanese and then suddenly say 'rolling escargot' in English / French. Because, essentially, I am a daft racist.
