Suede are on the Piano Room on Radio 2 at 11.30 today.
Why has no one reminded me about this?

Venice's canals are drying out. But they're not real canals are they, no old tyres, bikes frames or supermarket trollys to be seen. What sort of canal doesn't have supermarket trolleys in it. They make up for that in a sewage system that shifts it en mass out into the lagoon. "Many Venetians and tourists took the opportunity to throw on bathing suits and enjoy a swim in the city's flooded streets and squares — though we're not sure how good of an idea this is.
The city does not have a complete modern sewage system, meaning its canals are also its sewer system. This poses some obvious health and sanitation concerns." Insider

Last night I fought the Man like I was Crankcaller. Except that I won. and didn't get high. So not like Crankcaller.
Specifically I evaded multiple DRM systems that stop you recording a digital stream.
I used one laptop to play the stream, connected to the line in on the amp. I have an ADC which connected to the tape out on the amp and to a second laptop.
I was able to record Suede on Steve Lamacq, a Neil Young live stream and a Nick Cave live stream.
If I send a few minutes tracking them on Audacity I will be able to not listen to them at my leisure.

I’ve only ever been to Venice in February, not overly hot. The lower temperature probably helps with that.
I did get a full nostril of it in a tourist-trap pizzeria though. The definitely-not-Venetian proprietor sat us at a table right next to an open drain… I politely asked him to move us, which he did with no trouble. And then he promptly sat a Japanese couple at the vacated table.

One minute the Venetians are complaining that they are about to sink beneath the waves, the next it's all how they are running out of water to sink under. All a bit needy imo.

Sheep2 They'll make analogue outputs illegal next. In the interview with Suede before that Lamaq thing they mentioned their first gigs outside Londinium being Gourock/Greenock. £50 they got paid for the first one. I was chatting to the guy that ran both venues the other day. There was apparently some shenanigans as well but I've yet to discover what.

I knew a bloke who had his bum professionally de-haired. He said he'd never do it again as the itching on regrowth was 'agonising'.
Be warned.

Bay Hotel Gourock. Former art deco hotel turned total shit hole. Now gone. Many an under 18s indie disco, followed by gigs & club nights. Suede, Manics, Felt, TVPs, Cranberries, Bo Diddley! And many many more. Also, Abie, the scariest bouncer ever to knock me back.

Crank
I have paid £51.75 for a ticket to see Suede at the Symphony Hall in Brum in March. I expect a personal performance now. I'm also seeing them at Rock city in Nottingham. But that is cheaper so there may be a crowd. Also seeing them both in a sweaty club and in a posh concert hall is nice.
So long as my Marantz 6002 amp keeps working I will keep it. I bought it specifically because it has line out. I also have a cheap yet nifty ADC so I can digitise files. Mostly I use it to record LPs. It's very good. Depending on the quality of the vinyl I can get something that is pretty much the same as a CD/purchased FLAC at only 2-3 times the cost. Sometimes it adds hiss and other noise or doesn't track properly. I've also occasionally recorded tracks at the wrong speed.

Why are people banging on about all this Dad Rock? Because it is the 1990s.

I watched 'The Client' on Netflix last night - based on the John Grisham novel. It is one of the most 90s things I have ever seen, and not in a good way. Could not believe that they dished out Oscars for it - everyone must have been high on the end of the Cold War.

I'm on a web chat with Vodafone. They had a flag on my account as "vulnerable"
I asked what this was. "Age, physical or learning disabilities, communication problems, mental illness, communication difficulties, low literacy."
I think the Indian lad had problems with my phone voice last time - so probably the reason. Got to be it.

I like the idea of ordering new trains worth millions but not first measuring them to see if they fit through the tunnels. Didn't something like this happen with the channel tunnel. They found that Europe and Britain use different gauge rolling stock ?

What's all this about Rolling's stock being a different gauge?

Treatment today was its usual agonizing experience - the ulcers that are really painful are arterial ones and I have several of those in some horrible places on both legs: the shin on both legs; over the ankle bone. Treatment leaves me feeling very, very sick - eating solids, even soup is a no-no as I would just upchuck. Here's a reasonable, but commercial explanation of causes and treatment - if you are squeamish don't look. (For those that have not been bored shitless by this and want a quick reprise of the history: These problems were initially referred to my Vascular surgeon in 2017 as urgent*. For one reason or another I am pretty much limited to going to Stoke Mandeville 1m and a half away - that should be great news, as it's home to the two machines in the County on which an angioplasty can be done; but both these are currently out of action, and have been so for over a year. The only alternative is John Radcliffe at Oxford. And because of other conditions I have, that is outside my range in an ambulance. *Over 26 appointments and rebookings etc. to date.)
