Morning. We're off to a carnival today. A travelling fair by any other name. The carnival name allows them to charge inflated prices for a wristband. I'm looking forward to barfing in front of several youths. Hope crank isn't running the candyfloss store, not sure the kids could cope with the mirror room or other rides after.

The smell of amipal is so strong it smells like decent bacon. Are you insinuating that I work for Sussex police?

Moving away from pork and beef, has anyone been to Cromer? What was it like?

Books
The posthumous life of the manuscript Christopher de Hamel. I loved this. Loads of pictures pretty dry text. If you like books about illuminated manuscripts it is excellent
The Earth Transformed An Untold History Peter Frankopan. It was interesting, but I wasn't 1005 convinced about. Not dry enough it. Not as good as The Silk Roads.
Of Ants and Dinosaurs Cixin Liu I enjoyed this. A readable bit of sci-fi trash
Alterum William F Cooper. Not as clever as it thought it was. On the other hand it did think it was a pretty cool noir VR thriller. I enjoyed it.
Rome Theodore Mommsen £1.99 on Kindle. A classic book apparently. I am reading an English translation. It's very late 19th century. That is to say there are some discussions of race in the first few pages that while not necessarily deliberately racist aren't 100% up to modern standards. Four stars. Recommended.

Snapdragon - a dragon steals letters and parts of letters from a book to the horror of Book Mouse and the other animals of Moon Wood. OK I guess.

I have three books on the go at the moment:
One is called ‘Radical Candor’. It’s an American book with a subtitle something like ‘How saying what you think can change your life’.
Another is Carlos Castaneda’s ‘Journey to Ixtlan’.
Then there’s another written by George Saunders about three Russian short stories. It doesn’t have a catchy title.

Operation week, has started with absolute chaos... I won't iterate all the annoying happenings, but I spent hours with "where are my carers?" Having called at 8.a.m. as I had needed them at midnight. They arrived at 11.30 a.m. I finally got my call through to my chemist to change the delivery date then; at 9, 10 also got promises of other stuff needed for Thursday's operation...
Chiesa del Gesù o Casa Professa (1590-1636) Palermo, Sicilia.

Books: The Luftwaffe, 1944-45. Pretty short I would've thought as on the Western front they had pretty much ceded Air superiority to the allies and once their Southern advance had cut their fuel supplies...

I'd go for a book on how to think better before reading the book on saying what you think. Otherwise it will certainly open up new employment and relationship opportunities. Perhaps test out the responses on your sister before trying them in the wild.

Moving away from pork and beef, has anyone been to Cromer? What was it like? This time of year, bloody cold and if the wind is from the East or NorthEast it'll be Arctic; atm looks to be OK for a walk fully clothed. I used to go and stay with friends, and the walks were fine. However, you would want somewhere out of the wind to shelter to eat your scran and retreating back to their house to play games enabled my perennial boredom to stay out of gear.

This book on Radical Candor has something to say on the Lufwaffe. It says the United States Airforce invested in its employees by using its best pilots as trainers. Whereas the Germans didn’t. And that’s why German air power collapsed.
This was a digression from the candor element.
I’m not sure I buy it. I thought the Luftwaffe was pretty much diminished by the time the Americans got involved. I don’t really know though …
I’m just picturing Nigel Havers in a Spitfire.

Germany lost many good pilots during the Battle of Britain. Whereas RAF pilots could be recovered when shot down over Britain, German ones could not. Similarly, those lost over Russian territory were generally never heard from again… but for altogether different reasons.

Morning all! I went to a place of culture last night. That place was the Brighton Dome theatre, unfortunately filled with many uncouth sorts who only know culture through whatever is growing out of their assorted crevices.* Regardless, I enjoyed my time with author, dream weaver, visionary, plus actor Garth Marenghi. TVblog: DS9 - Children of Time, a good classic Star Trek episode. Boyblog: and so the Easter holidays start in earnest. Today’s plan is to meet with my dad, and go for a walk along the promenade in Seaford. *whooping, hollering, shouting out. These “people” have spent too much time watching American television. Barbarians. It was good, eh? I particularly enjoyed the Q and A section in the one I went to. He was remarkably fast on his feet, answering all manner of questions. Most impressive indeed.

War?
What is it good for? …
Crushing enemies.
Seeing them driven before you.
Hearing the lamentations of their women.
Also … the resolution of a variety of nebulous geopolitical and socio-economic problems.
It is still bad ….

Hearing the lamentations of their women. .
Well, some of my enemies don't 'have' women. Also, some of them actually are women. Come on lazybones, don't gender enmity, it's not 2015 any more.
