Because it has a limited range under water due to the density and depth. We can receive messages from space craft millions of miles away in the vacuum of space but can't get a tracking beacon to reach from the ocean floor? True, but a signal in space still has a limit without a booster because space has a 'thin' atmosphere. A signal travels at the speed of light (radio spectrum etc) and covers more distance in space because it's a vacuum and has less density, (there is a very fine 'layer' of dust particles in space), whereas a signal sent from a sub type device has to contend with the density of the water interfering with it's transition through the medium. edit: I think gravity plays a role too, but don't quote me on that (a VERY vague memory).

Every spacecraft has a wizard on board, to send messages back to earth. Wizards are scared of water, and therefore can't go in subs. Basic science

There’s quite a bit more matter in a 4km deep column of water than interplanetary space.

Can't we just drain the ocean and get them back that way? With global warming it will refill quickly enough.

Is Chumbles in the submarine? It’s what he would have wanted. I don't think we should read too much into chumbles not having 'liked' any of Sheep or Shenguin's posts yet.

The air has run out now, it's basically about finding the wreckage now. I expect going forward no more millionaire play boys will be allowed to go down there and risk their lives and cost how many millions to retrieve their corpses.

Afternoon all.
I planned to spend a chunk of my lunchtime setting up a Raspberry Pi Zero W for a project to provide an Amiga with wireless connectivity. Turns out that you need half a dozen different bits and pieces and cables to actually do so - my hopes of configuring it via VNC were rapidly dashed.
TVblog: my partner is going back through Friends. Again. I am not on board. Watched a couple of Star Wars: Clone Wars.
Whammerblog: another game of Fantasy Battle. Dwarfs & Empire vs Tzeentch daemons & Skaven. The dwarfs (my army) and humans won!

I re-read part of Kane's dissertation on space travel recently.
"This is dialectics. It's very simple dialectics: one through nine, no maybes, no supposes, no fractions. You can't travel in space, you can't go out into space, you know, without like, you know, with fractions! What are you going to land on, one quarter, three eighths? What are you going to do when you go from here to Venus or something? That's dialectic physics, okay?"
Food for thought.

Always play for time. Don't force the crisis. I am not saying this is what happened here, but it is.

So all the evidence appears to point to the sub being crushed by a giant squid tentacle. Just as I predicted.
