I went to see Russell Brand doing stand-up once. The ticket was a surprise birthday gift from an ex-girlfriend, I think because I liked some of his TV content. It was in Plymouth …
We had a meal in a restaurant beforehand where I ate some oysters and had a cocktail, then I think some Champagne and some red wine. Halfway through the show I left and spent over half an hour being more sick than I’ve ever been - ransacked with nausea in the toilets.
I wouldn’t have chosen to go to the show, but I did like his TV content at the time. I watched an episode of a podcast he did once but it just felt like he’d discovered and was enthusing about the ideas of Noam Chomsky. Apparently he went to do a degree at SOAS - a hotbed of radical left-wing sentiment. Irrespective of the stories and allegations the idea that he’s now somehow ‘alt-right’ I’m not sure about. It seems to be because he entertained ideas about vaccines and had Joe Rogan on his show. I don’t think he’s espoused any actual right-wing ideology. But then I haven’t seen any of his recent content.

I think the definition of 'alt right' is basically anyone the wokies don't like, or don't 100% agree with. Was having a very drunken conversation with someone about this the other night. She was saying that Joe Rogan is a racist homophobe. When I asked why she thought that, she said because he'd had Alex Jones and Jordan Peterson on his podcast, so therefore he must be racist and homophobic

He has a podcast that gets 7m subscribers an episode where he waffles on about how everything we are/were told about stuff like convid, big pharma etc is all about money, control and power, which as any fule knows is 100% true. Ok - I’ll level with you - I also had a copy of Russell Brand’s ‘My Booky Wook’ and possibly a book he did about football. I did like reading them but I jettisoned them at some point, quite a while back.
I wonder … if he’d had a sensible name for his one book, and a sensible haircut, without the penchant for plunge neck tops and jewellery, maybe I would have kept them?
