Everyone stop having fun. Rodney Bewes is dead. Gutted. Maybe James Bolam will finally relent in his grudge? A shame. I was always hoping for a Clements and La Frenais reboot of them as pensioners. Bewes was up for it too, but Bolam was adamant he would never play Terry Collier again.

Yeah, I know. I loved Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads when I was a yoof 'Whatever Happened To?' Pull the other one! It'd have been just The Likely Lads when you were a yoof, surely!?

Apparently Thelma was also a regular in Boon. Best bit of work I've done all day, finding that out.

Mr Rodney was VERY careful to keep tight-lipped about Mrs Brush's pregnancy.

Ah...was that the reason for the Lads' fallout? I never knew. Bolam was very private. During a joint interview Bewes let slip about Mrs Bolam's pregnancy. Bolam never spoke to him again. No-one holds a grudge like a Mackem.

Was it the Glyndebourne tour? I have never seen that opera, but I've seen a couple of the Glyndebourne tour productions, and they were very good -- The Turn of the Screw in 2015 was amazing. I went to Glyndebourne to see one opera (my ex tricked me into it). I liked the opera but wanted to line every motherfucker up against the wall for a good revolutionary shooting. One star, and it's got a hammer and sickle in the fucking middle of it. Fucking posh bastards.

One star, and it's got a hammer and sickle in the fucking middle of it. Fucking posh bastards. Yeah it was. And it really was good. I used to go to Glyndebourne regularly as I lived close and it was on the way home from work. It was really noticeable that if it was a popular opera (Mozart, Verdi, Puccini) the crowd were poshly dressed, the house was packed, and you’d see a lot of snoozing during the second part. It was just part of ‘the season’ for toffs. If it was a less well known opera you’d get people dressed a little more shabbily - suits but no DJs, dresses but no gowns - and the crowd was smaller but more enthusiastic. Real opera lovers. People were not pleased when I turned up on my Vespa for the posh nights.
