The day did, indeed, go as well as could be hoped. After the service we all decamped to what was my brother's local for food and drink. We saw relatives we hadn't seen since my dad's funeral. Much drink was taken.
An emotional time.

Joey Barton lol. Came to play for R*****s and let it be known to all and sundry in advance he expected to be the best player in the league. Played about half a dozen games, got nutmegged by a Hamilton player on his debut, and in general looked like someone who wasn't up to it. Went back south and told anyone who'd listen that the reason he had seemingly played so badly was that (contrary to appearances) he was in fact much too good for Scottish football, nobody else was on his wavelength, and so his failure proved his brilliance. Obviously this was enthusiastically lapped up by the EPL lads, including in a massive interview in the G.
I realise this is just a petty gripe and he's said and done a lot worse, so let's not forget his most serious offences against decency (i.e. signing for R*****s in the first place).
