morning. birds are chirping bleeding dog wanted a wee at 2.30 and since then I’ve been in the wide awake club fully expect to be asleep at my desk by lunchtime.
debating sacking off the commute and wfh as the drive home will be a drowsy one.
bit of Starfield yesterday but it’s feeling a bit old now. Maybe time to go for NG+ and start again.

hi
I played Dragon’s Dogma II yesterday. Or Dragon’s Dogma, as the title screen says.
I was being led about the map by a cat in Bayeux Tapestry era armour. It turns out he was a pawn created by Capcom. I sent him on his way. I think I now have a sorceror’s staff so I can become a sorceror rather than a mage. I have found navigating around the map a bit hard.
Sorry - these thoughts are all a bit disjointed.
The pawns are odd. Sometimes they say the most generic things. But … I’m now with a pawn belonging to Chatterbox 1.0 poster Rambozo. I think she must be based on Suzy in Curb Your Enthusiasm. She has a very brusque delivery. She was a bit mean about the prospect of joining my team.
The pawns are doing pretty much everything. They go charging into battle without me asking. I think they flat out murdered an innocent passer-by the other day ….

14 Hours of DD2.
Bottom line, it's a lot of fun and if you liked DD1 you'll like this.
Random thoughts.
It's a bit janky and performance varies wildly depending where you are, the save system is crazy, one manual/auto and one Inn/camp save, so be careful.
Same as DD1 there are few fast travel points and the means to use them is expensive*, so lots of walking and exploring, you can use Oxcarts which are very slow and could get attacked or you can sleep and are practically guaranteed to be attacked.
Combat is a lot of fun once you get used to no lock on, which was tricky for me as I've just come from Elden Ring NG +2, there's lots to explore and find.
Some quests are timed, indicated by an hourglass, so they can be failed if you rest too often after taking them on.
The item you use to camp is reusable, but keep 2 on your party as you can be attacked during the night and lose them, you will need to camp if you're out at night as you can't see anything and the monsters are stronger.
Lots of different builds and play styles.
Story is as good as you'd expect.
The Steam drama queens complaining about MTs fail to mention that:
1. You can't buy them in game you have to go to Steam, don't know about console, and you don't know they exist while playing. 2. Everything can be got in game without paying. 3. What you get is 1 portstone, which is a movable fast travel point, wakestones , which allow you to revive yourself rather than go back to the last save and RC points, which you use to hire pawns.
That said I wished Capcom hadn't added them.
Overall 4*
*Everything is expensive at first
<edit>also if your hired pawn dies and thus disappears any of your stuff they were carrying or picked up goes to your storage

And that is has no BR mode.

I have a Capcom pawn. He yelled follow me and charged off out of the capital. I had no idea where he was going, but I followed him. He led us out in to the dark and we all got killed. I wouldn't mind, but I had no idea where he wanted to go or why and no way of asking. I presumed it was something important, but I will not find out.
In the fights I have noticed everyone seems to charge in except me. I'd like a bit more control.

The first time I stumbled across the GGB Chatterbox in its original form, I read several massive walls of text about the first DD. They made it sound a lot better than it turned out to be.

I went into the castle jail to talk with the fella there. When I came out everyone attacked me constantly. The only way I could stop it was to load from the last Inn save. This was way way back as I've bought a place in the city. Got to go through a whole heap of stuff again.

There are/were a few people who love second rate CRPGs. The Chatterbox was a great support community for that. I think SerenVikity plaitinumed Dragon's Dogma, then played the Dark Arisen stuff to death, then did the same again when the game came out for PS4. An admirable tenacity.

A badly flawed RPG is generally better than an actually good one. There is something magnificent about badly flawed design decisions that actual competence cannot match.

I have a question.
How does Dragon’s Dogma II compare to Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3 for allowing you to wander about, experience strange, unexpected interactions and not have to follow set quests?
I have to get Elden Ring. I know this.

Just watched two mins of a Dragons Dogma II stream. The guy was cooking a steak in lovely 4k. Has anyone asked PETA their thoughts on the game?
