A long weekend.

I was in Paris for a while then back to watch the football yesterday ...

Coffee is not very nice in Paris. I don’t know why. To me lots of it seemed to have a sour taste. I thought it was the milk but even the black coffee had it a bit.

I mean I’m not a coffee afficionado. I just noticed it …

On balance, the people of Paris look five percent better than the people of London. It is irrefutable. Then there is a 20 percent who are at the next level - in every way - with the clothing and sense of personal style. Then there’s a ten percent superclass who look so phenomenal that you have to accept you are a mere snaggle-toothed hobgoblin, on holiday. A visitor, just passing through.

We saw, on one fairly non-descript commercial street, a heavily set women, standing at a doorway, in full moulin rouge style lingerie. It was just past 11 in the morning. I later saw a man so abject, and blasted by life. I still can’t talk about it …

I began to wonder if some of these scenes were set up.

One last thing … Croissants in Paris are now being given a run for their money by Pret-a-Manger. And that’s a fact. I mean I know it’s nicer to have a croissant in Paris. There are actually branches of Pret-a-Manger branches now there, which I guess is where the real croissant magic happens.

Paris is overrated

I have a plane booked to Amsterdam on Monday.

One time I was there I saw a German man, who - in an accent very similar to that of Werner Herzog - said ‘The Amsterdamage of Amsterdam’.

Hopefully this visit will be civilised. Almost all of my visits there have been civilised really. There was only the one time I was sick on myself.

I’m going there with mijn vader. I hope it’s ok.

We wil go to the Maritime museum, we will maybe go to ‘De Pijp’ where I can show him the street market and various outets for pickled fish. We will perhaps have a rijsttafel.

I will wonder if my dad has any interest in visiting a coffee shop. I don’t know how I would feel about that. I don’t always like the experience of being in a coffee shop.

We will hopefully go to some nice bars.

I need to find some other things to do. I’m wondering if there’s a Baruch Spinoza heritage tour.

Certainly feels like it, I haven’t got a holiday planned for ages.

Next weekend?

I really want to go back to Amsterdam.

Cat's off to the Vets this morning for an emergency appt. May not come back, who knows.
