Has he been at the medicine cabinet again? I've lost count of the number of times I've told him that is for the patients.
Harumph.

Since I cannot read the news any more, I am up to my neck in hifi reviews. My favourite one so far is one that commends the Cambridge AXA35 for its all-round qualities, but recommends that you have another amp handy so you can switch between them depending what you are listening to on a track by track basis. The hifi lads and the coffee machine lads have to be the best nerds out there. The videogames community can't even get close.

If you aren't switching stylus, turntable, phono, pre-amp, amp, speakers and interconnects for each individual track you aren't even trying. And that's for music you are streaming.

Hi-fi v Computers I think it's difficult to spend much more than £10,000 on a pc for home use. That will get you an array of screens, top graphics cards lots of memory and the best of pretty much everything - well for two months. If you want a full racing set up with seat, pedals and steering wheel you might be able to add a bit more.
It's possible to by a stylus or a single hi-fi wire for this sort of money. I have no idea if they actually sell anything at this price level. I assume the top products are made mostly for demoing and to advertise the ones they actually sell. If you buy separates even the basic stuff sounds very good.

I need to get a turntable - a record player for my vinyl long-players.
A bit pricey though. I never feel the need to listen to my old long-players so maybe I don’t need to get one.
But these days … if you listen to Spotify and don’t buy the long-player you get shamed. People call you an exploiter.

I bet all the hifi nerds drink instant coffee and the coffee machine nerds get their CD players from Argos. The trendiest places are combined coffee shops and music shops. If you don't have a sculpted beard, multiple piercings and at least 3 visible tattoos they won't let you in. There's one in Leith, some in Brighton and I expect around the trendy parts of London. I haven't been to one, but I read about them in Hi-fi & Coffee wanker monthly.

Pre COVID there was a club in Glasgow called Melting Pot. I was a regular for many years, my pal ran the cloakroom, I took have worked the cloakroom - but that's best not talked about.
One of the DJ's runs a high end HiFi shop. They borrowed really, really expensive interconnects and other stuff.
Thousands of pounds worth of cables. Tonearms, carts etc all into a very expensive rotary mixer. Sounded amazing.
To play music to folk steaming drunk or out their farter.
