From what I've read he was a massive racist but is disgusted with his old self now. That seems to be what he was aiming for. I can see why commentators like Gary Younge haven't found that entirely sympathetic. John Barnes wants to give him a medal. Can someone tell me definitively what to think please? |

Hmmm. On this Neeson thing I've got to agree with Nutkins.
Nutkins, I agree with you. It was honest of Neeson to admit that he had these thoughts, because it's good if people recognise that they were wrong in the past and that they had changed, but I feel that he's somehow expecting the interviewer and the reader to be able to follow his twisted logic ( which boils down to "I cope with the sexual assault of a loved one by killing a random stranger"). The other thing that struck me was a Neeson quote in an interview with the Guardian from 2014: "We all racial-profile. It’s a horrible thing to admit to but we all do it. I know I do." To which I say: Speak for yourself, man. This is what racists do: seeking the consensus that, deep down, people who aren't racist actually feel the same as they do and they just pretend not to be racist. I remember an interview of a white supremacist in the US saying something along the lines of "It is natural wanting to be with people who look like you." It didn't occur to him that other people might find that not natural at all.
