Here's my reaction whenever Mr Tent Rooster switches on his South African accent  It sounds authentic, though. We stayed in a B&B on holiday in Mpumalanga and he always faked that accent when talking to the owner. But when we were giving our home address at the end of the stay our host was very surprised to learn that we were tourists from Pommyland! His family left South Africa when he was very small and none of them have any discernible accent to my ear. However, once on a train journey in Scotland with his father a fellow passenger remarked "You two are obviously from Mull". One generation removed... his grandfather was a stonemason from Mull. |
