My pal informs me his ex-missus got their kid a Samsung smart watch, a gaming lappy and a new phone for Xmas. Why didn't my folks split up at age 12. In saying that it would have been a Casio digital watch, a Spectrum+ and a set of walkie talkies.

It's more money about guilt over splitting up. But your point stands.
He's only on a 16hr p/w contract as he's got health problems. So it doesn't really stretch to stuff like that.

I got the 11y-o a PS4 controller and headset, and extended the ban on the 11y-o using the PS4, even after moving it back into the living room so I could use it on Boxing Day.
