So this "self isolating" thing means that gamers are going to inherit the Earth.
That's nice.

Flybe part-owner Sir Richard offers stranded passengers a green alternative ... To be fair (unusual I know) all those blaming the government for this debacle are idiots. This is the first of many and they cannot bail out Flybe. It would also seem insane to bail out a carrier which uses recycled air, thus ensuring a greatly increased chance of Covid-19 spread. More I've heard which you should hear...

Games. No TV. B99 on the commute.
It's World Book Day. Even for you fuckers that read books with maps.

Today's 'Spot the cunt' competition. Left or Right? I'll give you a clue: It is not the clearly far-right plastic shrubbery.

Hello. Ganes: no. Tv: no: Watching the football updates on the BBC website: yes.
World Book Day? I've read some books recently: Transcription by Kate Atkinson: disappointing. 4 stars. Gilead by Marilynne Robinson: very good. 4 stars. Blood's A Rover by James Ellroy: not bad if you like that sort of thing. 4 stars. July, July by Tim O'Brien: good. 4 stars.
I'm probably going to read The Poisonwood Bible next, but it's very long and I'm a slow reader, so don't hold your breath for my in-depth review.

Anyway, earlier I posted at the end of yesterday's box a bit about top 10 sf books / authors. Dunno if the link will work... Got to sleep, but back braining my top 10 aliens... It would be nice if from books, but I know some of you are barely literate. Give it a go...

I haven't read most of the books on that guy's list, but I thought Inversions was one of the weaker Iain M Banks books. My favourite SF book is probably A Canticle for Leibowitz.

morning all,
Got back into Skyrim last night. A determined effort to finish the dlc.
Rome 2 is great but I don't have 6 minutes to wait at the end of a turn. I have sragons to avoid.

In no particular order...
Fivetide Humidyear, Banks/Excession and/or Quercer&Janath, Banks/Algebraist Blustery idiots. Splendid.
Krakens, McLeod/Cosmonaut Keep Cephalopods are fascinating and I can completely believe they are actually interstellar navigators. See also below.
Ford Prefect, Adams/HHGttG Obviously.
Not Gurb, Garriga/No Word From Gurb Lost dude in Barcelona. We’ve all been there.
Cuthulu, that daft racist Lovecraft/various. Arguably the things in Color out Of Space and Erich Zann are better, but Ol’ Tentacle Face is the main man.
Frank n Furter, Rocky/O’Brien. A play, so I’m counting it as literature.
Chocky, Chocky/Fisk (Edit WRONG! It was Wyndham, apparently) Scarfolk, 100% scarfolk
The Krakens, The Kraken Wakes/Wyndham. More ambiguous than the Triffids, might not even be ETs, starts with a Tennyson poem. Four stars.
Right, I’m going to actually do some work and consider no10. I note that there’s a serious gender imbalance amongst my near-human aliens and my brain is currently failing to come up with many suggestions. Banks has a lot of good women who could be arguably alien, but they are mostly just foreign humans. Did Le Guin do aliens at all?
Composite no10: Caliban/Id/Krells, who doesn’t love a bit of Forbidden Planet? And it’s Shakey, so proper intellexchooul.

Minor quibble about Quercer & Janath... ...they're not aliens you daft essentialist. You probably reckon HG was just a flymo. Just because they’re REDACTED doesn’t mean they’re not alien REDACTED. I mean, that’s kind of one of the main themes of the book. If you cut them, do they not bleed? Rhetorical question.
