I had my first go of animal crossing last night, I did find some eggs lying about and sold them to Tommy, was that wrong?

No. You won't get any recipes for them now as Easter is over. Sell em or eat em.
Unless your character is vegan.

Gotta be careful with eating anything as you will be so energised that you can uproot trees and, worse, destroy rocks! Unless you have a toilet, apparently, then nature can take its course.

Can I post again my fwiend code for anyone in need of a friend in high places (I have a ladder!) and with good connections to the Nook Man. I can order stuff for you, no problem. Coffee grinder, magnetic knife holder or shopping trolley? You want it, you got it. And that skull carpet that really ties the room together. 3927-5569-0967 Username: Naqia (go to 'search by friend code', then 'send friend request') Now, I didn't know whether to put a spoiler warning on the following but thought that if you regard this info as a spoiler you are probably not looking at this thread in the first place. Otherwise stop reading immediately. As an old AC hand let me give some advice to the noobs here that will help you with your enormous mortgage and other debts. Once you have a shovel you should put it to good use every day by a) excavating the glowing spot that spawns at the dawn of a new day in a random location to find 1,000 Bells. Put them into your wallet, make sure that you have enough money and take 10,000 Bells out of your wallet and bury them in the glowing hole. A little sapling will appear that over the next days will turn into a fully grown tree with three money bags, each containing 10,000 Bells. After you have harvested the money the tree will become a normal tree and can be chopped down. You can plant a new money tree every day. (My glowing spot keeps spawning right in front of the entrance to my museum. I need the creation tool badly to lay a path and stop this.) If you bury only the 1,000 Bells you found in the hole your return will be 3,000 Bells. If you bury more than 10,000 Bells you still won't get more than 30,000, so don't do that. b) Know the location of all the rocks on your island. You can get valuable resources (clay, stone, iron ore and gold nuggets) from these rocks by hitting them with a shovel (or an axe in the pre-shovel days), but every day one of the rocks will become the 'money rock', i.e. it will give out Bells. If you strike a rock rhythmically and in quick succession up to 8 times it will continue to give out materials or money. The problem with striking the rock continually is that you will feel the recoil which will eventually push you back so that your rhythm will break. To prevent this from happening you should dig some holes behind you before you start hitting the rock in front of you. I personally prefer three holes in a row to be on the safe side, other people use only two on the corner of the rock that they stand between. Like this: Rock
You
Hole Hole Hole
or
Rock
Hole You
Hole
Currently the money rock gives you 16,100 Bells per day. Among the random islands you can visit in exchange for Nook tickets there is one extremely profitable type which has several money rocks, all of which you can exploit in this manner.
Every day one of the rocks also spawns a stone, make sure you remove that so that it doesn't take up a space. Make sure that you haven't eaten anything because otherwise you will destroy the rock when you hit it and only gain a single stone (it will respawn the next day(?) in a different location, so only do that if a rock is in the way of your construction.)
In other AC games it was possible to get double the Bells out of the money rock by practising feng shui and by wearing lucky items of clothing, a complex system that would only be revealed gradually to the player. It is currently unknown whether these systems return in New Horizons, but I would recommend having a look at this:
animalcrossing.fandom.com/wiki/Feng_Shui
The principle is very easy to grasp: green items (e.g. plants) should be placed in the south, items that appear yellow in the west, and reddish items in the east. No idea whether this has any effect and what item has what feng shui properties, but it can't hurt.
tl;dr: money, money, money

I cashed out half my turnips on the preferred mammal's island for just over 200, which nudges me slightly into profit and leaves me the rest to gamble with.
I used the funds to pay off my final home upgrade. As a reward, Tom Nook will now change the exterior of my home for free. I'm underwhelmed to say the least.

Planted my first 10k bells today after you told me about it last night.
Not really had much of a chance today/tonight to get on. The lion (rex?)has moved in and Audy is due once I finish her house.
Spoke to that Schister Tom Nook who's going to extend my gaff.
Loads of qr codes for clothes on Pinterest.

Audy and Rex have arrived to stay. Money tree is growing and trying to grow a second one but flashing hole not giving me a plant option. Hmmm. I was able to get some gold from a rock though using the patent pending TentHen method.
{edit} 2nd tree planted!

I've had the same thing happening to me when I realised I wasn't holding the shovel at the time. Yesterday I landed again on money rock island, as a result my house has yet another room! I'm wondering whether my feng shui efforts are paying off? Maybe it's a coincidence. The bamboo island remains elusive, though, so thank you again for bringing this to my island. In previous games once the bamboo got going it was difficult to stop, wonder if it's the same here.

My bamboo hasn't grown. Have moved it to another spot to see and I'll put it back. Was wanting to be on the river bank next to my house.
What's best to do with gold? Does it make stronger tools?

Hush Rolling, it's ok to come here and read quietly, but we've had our fun and should let them have some peace and quiet now.

I know I called you all degenerates, but I didn’t really mean it, and if I ever get my hands on a switch, the likelihood of me getting animal crossing is quite high.

I've got three money trees on the go!
All three new islanders have arrived and my cherries/peaches from Pyjakson have started to fruit.
Some stoner Harvey just invited me to his island and I've opened up customising furniture. I'm hoping Harvey gives me some plants to "keep for him"

Who is the filthy drugs addict who has dropped a tab or ten in those pictures? (not the hippy looking one in the dinosaur pictures)
