I saw Aretha in concert in 1996.
Going round the U.S.A with a friend. We were in DC and there was a free concert advertised that evening on the Mall. I think was a 30 year commemoration of civil rights marches. As it was free we popped along.
Aretha was utterly superb, spellbinding. I would not previously have paid, but having seen I would absolutely have paid whatever it cost.
