Yeah, brutal 'tackles' galore. Particularly at Napoli and Barcelona.
If my memory of my completed (puffs out chest) 1985 panini sticker alb is correct, then Miller should be number one for the best tasche.

Diego, RIP. In my years of watching football, that I can remember, since the 1982 world cup, he was, by far, the best player by some distance. Yes, I hated him aged 11 in 1986. But the only ones to come (not even) close, for me Clive, were Zidane or Messi. And they're several levels below. Maybe it's nostalgia, but in my eyes he was a one man mentalist football genius. Pele, Best or Charlton were my dad's favourites and he rates them higher, but I think Maradona is the GOAT. If, erm, a bit sneaky in 1986! I still really dislike that little cheat - I cannot abide cheats. I'm probably not far from your father's age; Best was best in my view, for a span of about 3 years - he turned in performances at the level of Maradona in an era when rain turned pitches into quagmires and boots*, balls into objects so heavy that kicking one was a bit like kicking a stone. Most defenders opted for kicking Best off the park, rather than trying to get the ball, and still the little fucker could ghost around and through defences. Bear in mind that I am a gooner - his destruction of Arsenal's defences was a constant source of pain - so I am not a Red Manc fanatic. Below is a 4 minute montage of the greatest player I've ever seen (and I'm a mega-fan of Martin Peters and Cruyff)... *and yes, you do see him lose one of his boots to a potentially maiming tackle, continue on, putting the boot back on whilst ghosting another defender and going on to score.

I remember seeing a clip on, I think, something like Grandstand, as a youngster. That, or World of Sport were the only channels, so one of them. It was a brawl whilst he was playing for Barcelona, Bobby might have been manager, or Cruyff. Anyway, he was just jumping into this brawl with flying kicks, then running away, then straight back in with another. Well, that's how I recall it, it's probably 35 years ago.

Chumbles, my Dad still goes on about the day he watched Man Utd at Hillsborough. Well, it's not his only talking point, but it gets mentioned alot. He's not a Man U fan (or Sheff Wed), 5-4 to Sheff Wednesday (just checked) . Best, Charlton and Law all scored. Two of his favourites.

He did cheat, but footballers cheat like that all the time. Thierry Henry knocked Ireland out of the world Cup in 2010 with a cynical handball but he isn't generally remembered as 'a cheat'. I suppose with the Maradona one it's the fact that it was such a ridiculous handball plus it was the semi final. Doesn't make it right of course, regardless of whatever fleeting joy it cracked into the howling void of crankcaller's existence.

I never knew Best played for Hibs. It all makes sense now...
Only joking.
Was it Rodney Marsh, that well known tea total and bookworm, that they sent with Best as a mentor over to the USA league?
Classic getting it wrong.

I did say for 3 years - but the booze and the adulation eroded his greatness and frankly, it was desperately sad to watch. Here's a much longer documentary, that does a very good job of charting his rise and slow motion dive into darkness.

Also, England were "beaten" (let it goooo Tuffers), in the quarters in Mexico, but Semis will do, as that's what the world should remember.

G'night everyone ...
I've just finished my task list for the day. I could have been trying to sleep a couple of hours ago if I hadn't kept posting rubbish on here ...
