I've been racing my 1931 blower Bentley around England. Wind in the hair? Doing the 'ton'? Jumpers for goalposts? Marvellous.

Ideally I’d have a boat I could take across the Channel. Or up the coast to Liverpool, or across the treacherous Irish Sea to the Ards Peninsula. A modern take on the ... penteconter... maybe... but smaller, with an engine... and sanitation ... I’m running my mouth. Yesterday, and for much of today, we had a tri-mast sailing-ship at anchor off Saltdean. The Dar Mlodziezy out of Gdańsk. Alas, I did not see it unfurl it’s sails at departure, it’s heading due-west along the Channel.

I watched Under the Skin. It was basically just the same as Species, remade as an art house Scottish film by someone with a penchant for experimental forms.
It got slightly better after it had finished and I read a couple of summaries of it on the internet.
Four stars, might recommend.

On the basis of the film I bought a book by the writer of the book it was based on. But it was a different book, and I did not like it at all. The Book of Strange New Things. Apparently Under the Skin - the book - is quite good though.

I have read Under the Skin. It's pretty disturbing. Driving on the A9 is terrifying enough without having to worry about getting farmed by aliens.

Species 1-3 may be the greatest trilogy in the history of film.

Species 4 is not so good.
