I had a temporary admin role and was lower down the pecking order than the call centre guys. Jamie's terracotta squid therefore seemed like quite exotic and aspirational food.

I used a few Jamie Oliver recipes as a student and young professional, but I am not a fan of his stuff now. He gets away with pretty simple stuff because he champions "fresh" ingredients. The whole harassing of Rotherham's mums at the school gates was a bit shit too. Working gentleman or gender neutral term of sex worker?

Jamie Oliver is just what hapoens when the marketing lot run with it.
Can't blame him for some aspects, after all he's thinking he could build an empire and at that point could do no wrong.. Problem is he overextended himself (Jamies Kitchens) and getting into the social issues etc.
He's still doing well, if it wasn't him there'd be another chef-turned-celebrity in the role he occupies.

I don't mind Oliver. His heart is in the right place. I'm sure he thinks highly of me.

He's a liar. I own several of his books. 30 mins meals do not take 30 mins. They take at least 45.
I don't mind him. The whole lad/pucka shite was annoying but I've a few good staples from his books.

Lazy is a sock puppet for Jamie Oliver? There's no indication on your toad-in-the-hole recipe as to how long it will take, just to take it out the oven when it's ready. It cooks considerably quicker than the other toad recipe I use, so it was ready well before everything else. You dick.

Don’t get me started on his 5 ingredient book. 5 ingredients, and half of a cupboard full of other stuff.

It's only if you are using cheap cuts you need to make the food more complicated.

I'd leave Ainsley Harriott out. I rather like the boggle-eyed cunt.
[EDIT] He did 'Ainsley's Meals in Minutes'. Chuck him with the rest of them.

Games
None yesterday. Friday I had an 11 kill game in duos. Not sure why. I just slaughtered everyone early on. It was pleasing even though we only came secnd. Saturday 2 wins to finish the evening. I am left dangling on a hat-trick achievable either by winning my next solo game or my next duos game. Shenguin got in the way of winning shot which was annoying.
Book Failures Of State. Grim reading. It stops in December 2020 as well. Doesn't explore the worst days. It is pretty shocking how badly the government did and worse how they covered it up.
Films Red Sparrow 4* ok Passengers 4* pretty good The Midnight Sky 4* Ok

Morning everyone, I'm feeling sad to have missed the knife and school trip chat on friday. So join me as I travel back through time.
Knife chat: The only knives I ever had were both sort of obligatory, firstly Swiss Army. Was totally fascinated by them, I always thought the Swiss Army must be the most Hi-tech military in existence. Secondly Opinel, The wood one with the twist lock. I never quite got as good at cutting bits of fruit with it as imagined I would be.
School trip chat: Our German dept at High School planned the exchange to Munich every year during Oktoberfest. I went 3 times. It was amazing fun. The teachers would go out of their way to avoid seeing any of us drinking and smoking. It was like beer was making us invisible. And only one of them ever seemed to turn up for anything school related each day so they had fun too. Just good times in the early 90s but probably gross misconduct for todays poor educators.

And obviously Flick-combs were way cooler than flick knives, My Dad bought me one in 1988 from the gift shop at the top of (one of) The Twin Towers. Pulling it out menacingly to get a reaction from some poor kid in the year below then pushing the button and combing a single pass through your hair was at least a months entertainment.

My collection of celebrity chef recipe books is small and largely inherited.
I can't stand Jamie Oliver and his unrelenting, over the top enthusiasm, although his school food campaign was entertaining to watch because it didn't feature your own children refusing to eat anything green. I have never knowingly followed a Jamie Oliver recipe.
The only celebrity chef whose TV appearances I've enjoyed is Heston Blumenthal.
Lunch: Chicken tikka pieces (= middle class turkey twizzlers) in flatbread with tomato and cucumber.
