Skyrimming! Started tracking down Mehrunes Dagger. I’d already inadvertently got some of it after a dragon attack had taken out a villager and I looted their corpse for a key. Struggled a bit with another bit, at one point even killing Lydia when she got in the way of my crossbow. Not Lydia!!! I hope you reverted to a previous save file. That's why I leave my Lydia at home. After walking into my bedroom at Breezehome uninvited one day she's still there when I return home from my adventures, take the weight off my feet (by putting all my loot into a chest - look, down to a svelte 195 again) and have a kip. She always sits there, eating my snacks and occasionally mumbles "Honour to you, my Thane". I learnt on our first mission together that I'm much more of a danger to her than any foe. Besides, she totally ruins my stealth strategy. Yesterday I returned to Halted Stream Camp to get the rest of the loot I'd forgotten or didn't have space for, did a bit more mining and realised that when transmuting ore last time I should have put on my special alteration outfit. Then I remembered that I had that run-in with the Cultists, and there was still a marker on my map of Whiterun. I went there and couldn't see anyone. Eventually I discovered that there was still the body of a dead Cultist that the public spirited guards had hidden in some bushes so that it wouldn't ruin Whiterun's chance of winning the "Skyrim in Bloom" award. Out of sight, out of mind.

I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, but it’s pretty clear you’re in too deep. I admit that I was looking at the recipe for Elsweyr Fondue and was wondering whether I could do this at home. Excuse me while I petition the government to lift the ban on sales of Moon Sugar.

Scubar, I've given up on travelling with anyone. Invariably they turn a Metal Gear Solid sneak attack into Tarantino directs The Chuckle Brothers. I need to get an essential buddy really, someone I can’t kill no matter how hard I try. I had a horrible moment once fighting a necromancer, I’d killed Lydia and then the necromancer made her rise again to fight me. As I killed her for the second time, I’m sure she said thank you. Barbas the dog is a great companion, and if you take the option to return him to his master then he is unkillable, and a tank in battle. On the downside he will constantly nudge you off paths, and down mountain-sides: and if you want to play sneaky then you are screwed as he will bark and whimper whenever you try and creep past any hostiles, but I did get very attached to the great hairy lump, and was eventually forced to return him to Clavicus Vile as it had stopped me getting any new main quests.

A couple of vamps met an end just outside the blacksmith's in Whiterun. People, including children, regularly stop and comment about the body. It's a talking point.
Buddies can be useful in taking down some of the tougher opponents. It's also nice to craft decent armour for them, Lydia ended up with dragonbone armour and it almost looks as good as the daedric stuff. The downsides are that any buddy will make sneak redundant, they can also get in the way a lot and by 'get in the way' I mean 'killed by accident'.
Barbas is a good un, watching him tangle with a dragon is quite bizarre. Being the unlikeable individual I tend to go solo.

Faendal is great for free archery lessons, Apart from that, he’s a liability. Mjoll the lioness is meant to be good, and unkillable, but I think her idiot friend tags along too.

I think the follower I got the most of out of was Aranea Ienith. She stood out of the way and sent lightning death to the bad guys.

I remember the old ISS version Konami put out on the N64 which was amazing for the time. You would be 9-3 up and score number 10 and the commentator would scream "That's the first critical goal!!!".
