First there was rule 34, then there was rule chatterbox, if it exists there will be puns, especially fish puns.
You people, this plaice.

Hello. This morning I read this article on the disclosure of "problems" in houses (US only) that go beyond rising damp www.theguardian.com/business/2021/aug/27/sellers-disclose-stigmatised-haunted-house-lawincluding the link to a long report on a New Jersey property that is known as the "Watcher House". www.thecut.com/2018/11/the-haunting-of-657-boulevard-in-westfield-new-jersey.htmlI'm beginning to understand why there are so many unsolved murders in the US. This is a case where the police had both a writing sample as well as a DNA sample and the circle of suspects was extremely limited. Still, from my position as an armchair detective it looks to me as if they thoroughly botched the investigation. The story is being adapted for Netflix, so that should be interesting. Unsurprisingly, people in the comments were quick to blame the inevitable video games guy. I can't think of a game where you play as a "Watcher" that had been released at the time. Hmmmm.

Games chat: I was suddenly reminded by a YouTuber doing some sort of review that No More Heroes 3 came out today. I had a mild interest in it but wanted to see some reviews by people whose tastes I know (unfortunately no-one at the Guardian has taken it upon themselves to write a review), because any Suda51 game is likely to divide opinions.
So I had a look at Metacritic where the game currently sits at a 76: 37 positive reviews, 13 middling ones and... 1 negative review, a 40 from GameSpot. De gustibus non est disputandum*, but this is sticking out like a very sore thumb. Particularly when the Easy Allies reviewer calls it one of the best games of the year and gives it a 90.
Looks like someone dislikes toilet humour and mowing the lawn.
Needless to say, I've ordered myself a copy. It comes with a nice shopping bag and a pixelated heart pin, what's not to love?
*you wait for ages for a gustibus and then three come along at once, 2 from IGN and 1 from Kotaku
Edit: I've just received an email from Nintendo about the game. The subject matter is preceded by a 🧻bog roll emoji. Classy.

tenthenemy Do you ever order something that doesn't have a Steelbook or equivalent? Not that I think there is anything wrong but "there but for the grace of God go I". Though as an atheist it is probably not the best quote, but the words are quite good. What I'm trying to say is I Admire your buying strategy.

The young women with the buns (and cakes) has just been to the door. It was my turn to say "No thanks, we're being healthy..." As the pm took the hit last Friday.
I feel bad, but she's not taking the hint. "No thanks, I had creme brulee for my morning snack" doesn't give the same air of watching what you're eating.
I've sold a keyboard to a German fella. He thought I was going to send it and then he'd pay me. And they say Germans don't have a sense of humour.
By "they" I of course mean Jeremy Clarkson fans.
Some more control later and see if it's still freaking me out. But first a post dinner coffee. We had chicken, broccoli and edame bean stir fry. With rice for a change.

Hi
I'm drinking sweet booze - had a couple of 660ml bottles of Ayrton Stella, now cracked open some Ilkley pale.
In what future generations will call 'a master stroke' I've just set the kids xbox series S up in the front room and have my PS5, as usual, set up in my 'man cave' . All the consoles! I'm going to argue with myself about which one is fractionally better than the other and use words like egg box, micro$oft and shitstation.
First however, I'm going to see what's on that there Gamepass and then decide which food to order (possibly Chinese).
It's eerily quiet though. Maybe too quiet...

Though as an atheist it is probably not the best quote, but the words are quite good. What I'm trying to say is I Admire your buying strategy. Honestly, I'm not doing this intentionally. These things just have a tendency to come my way. I suppose adding a handful of knick-knacks to a game must somehow help selling it, otherwise they *gestures vaguely in the direction of retailers and marketing departments* wouldn't be doing it. Additionally, the physical copy of the game is always cheaper than the RRP at launch. This is why I'm still miffed that Capcom forced me to buy The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles digitally at full price without giving me a single novelty keyring. To their credit, they made up for it by including the early purchase bonus (still available until 1st September, hurry, hurry while stocks last), which is wonderful and beautiful stuff.

Waiting for The Evil Within 2 to finish downloading from Gamepass. I've never even played The Evil Within 1! That's how utterly bonkers things are round here now!

He needs to come to Barnsley with the Blues tomorrow. It will be automatically terrible almost certainly. Give him a Peaky blinder cap and it will be fine. I can't see how things could go wrong.

Evening all. Mildly leathered. Currently listening to the 12" mix of Why by Carly Simon. I'm Balearic don't you know. Watched more Queens Gambit & Physical. The latter I'm finding very amusing.
