Apparently the ones my work ordered were the perfect thickness for roach material when building joints. Not that I would know that obviously. I had ordered some Jabra earbuds. They have arrived.

Cheese and broccoli pasta for lunch with a side of crispy Marmite flatbread. You might not realise this, but regular consumption of Marmite is part of my settled status conditions. I'm expecting Priti Patel to check up on me later, and I don't want to push my luck after last month's warning about insufficient amounts of vinegar on my chips.
I was only able to make the pasta thanks to my regular pint of milk turning up on the doorstep this morning. The weeks before delivery had been very sketchy, until last week when I was twice greeted by an email in the morning telling me that my delivery had been cancelled that for that day "due to unforeseen circumstances". Brexit now.

Tomorrow I'm making a beef and Guinness pie, which will be slow cooked with mushrooms and carrots and served with mashed potatoes. Pref.Mam. referred to the filling as a stew and for some reason that annoyed me. Question: Is the pie filling a stew?

My new next door neighbour, formerly known as Les Dawson, is now the Honey Monster.
I had a brief chat earlier with them.
Claims to have 400 Aunts.
Claims to have 10 sisters - later on claimed 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
Invited me to a Boxing Day spread. When I told them that I wasn't sure of my plans, I might be in Monaco, Marseille or Norway, an eyelid wasn't batted.
Send help.

Piechat!
In my humble (pie) opinion….
For a pie filling I’d toss the beef chunks in plenty of seasoned flour before frying, and for a stew, just season and fry, before decanting to the Slow cooker. The missing link in this story is, are you cooking a pie with a pastry topping only, or a fully enclosed suet based affair…. If topped only then a wetter stew-like filling is fine, but for a full on freestanding suet pie I’d use flour for an unctious thicker filling that isn’t going to run out when you break into the beast. YMMV.
Either way, mash is a good accompaniment.
Really fancy a pie now……

Tomorrow I'm making a beef and Guinness pie, which will be slow cooked with mushrooms and carrots and served with mashed potatoes. Pref.Mam. referred to the filling as a stew and for some reason that annoyed me. Question: Is the pie filling a stew? I would feel a tad miffed myself; buy a can of Irish stew, place your piece of pie perfection in front of your P.M. and haughtily ask whether the fortunate partaker of the pie's grandeur would prefer Tesco's pre-cooked filling blander? Oh dear, I seem to have strayed to your table *Chez Felice? Bugger the definitions, for me a stew is a one pot concentration of all the goodies - like a brisk juvenile romance; a pie has a poetry of interplay betwixt the filling and the pie crust where each subtly permeates and perfuses the other so that you crave both; and, say, a steak and kidney pudding is a weekend's orgy - a fantastical confusion of the suet and its filling. Hmm... how do I describe the cobblers?
*I'd eat there!

Shirley any thing using suet combined with meat is a pudding not a pie. Either that, or a wild experiment requiring a stomach pump or a hefty dose of Macrogol It's time for me to sleep (I was up at 4.30); I will be dreaming of a small, but pretty part of the Midlands where three bistro pubs will be having a contest of aromas, each luring the gambolling gourmand to their bijou establishments, with their menu du jour flaunting their wares... "Scotch pie, extra pepper if needed, eat whole with hand, like you would an apple"
Scotch pies should go on a buttered roll. You break the rim in on itself before applying broon sauce and closing the roll.
Your welcome.

Ooh, interesting, I might try that. The local morrisons does scotch pies from the in-house bakery. I nearly bought 2 the other day, but they looked pale, under done, like they needed another 10 mins in the oven on high, so didn't buy em. You need that crispy rim (ooerrr) to be erm, crispy. And they need to be peppery, perhaps too peppery.
