Other than that I spent the weekend hitting the books. Developments in the depiction of the Mesopotamian Underworld, more Demons stuff and a bit more about witches. The difficulty in terms of definitions makes it more fun. Reckon I'll have enough for a podcast. Yes, Irving's new discovery was timely. Happy to help in any way I can.

Hi Ten, What I was trying to get into was the development in the Neo-Assyrian period with regards to how the Underworld was perceived. I read a comment that the association with demons was made more strongly in this period. Other than this comment there's only the comparisson between the descent of Ishtar vs the 'Underworld vision of an Assyrian Prince' to draw anything from. I'm citing a number of historians but even so I'd rather know more myself. I should have invited you on the episode!

Hello all.
TVblog: two episodes of The Orville.
Filmblog: half an hour of Fast & Furious 6. That Paul Walker had the eyes of a Siberian husky.
Amigablog: I spent a while with Odyssey, an adventure/puzzle/platform game from 1995. Beautiful to look at (hints of Ico), but ruddy difficult.

On this morning's Start the Week, Irving Finkel was discussing this (mainly in the last part of the programme), there was a right gabby woman who monopolised, the convo; sadly Finkel's new book isn't published until November... www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/schedules/bbc_radio_fourfm#on-airEdit: Is the book you refer to this one?

No, I believe scamander was talking about this www.theguardian.com/culture/2021/oct/16/figures-of-babylon-oldest-drawing-of-a-ghost-found-in-british-museum-vaultThe "Do not look behind you!" at the end is interesting as this is a reverse Orpheus and Eurydice situation where the lovers are heading for the Underworld instead of trying to escape from it. (As always, a lot of Greek mythology and cultural practices have their roots in the Near East. People think of them as separate entities these days but at the time there was of course a constant exchange of ideas.)

Co-op Minecraft Dungeons with the child. Good fun - though I'm in the bad books as i meant to get her to do some piano as well and in all the excitement forgot.
Making a mild curry for dinner - some for child and some for freezing. Got a katsu crumb and sauce for the PM/I.

Crank is a fellow piano owner? That's 3 of us now if we assume Cobblers is still alive.
Added points if you have no idea how to play it yourself.

I'm in a 'Spoons!
Only because I went to get a cab at school kicking out time so there is nothing around.
This is probably the most depressing place I've ever been in, dark brown furniture, lot's of old people staring into their drink.
Sadly I fit right in.
<edit>Think East European train station café without the clipped English accent.

The parliament channel, presumably tributes to Amess.

Thank you all for birthday wishes.
In honour of my advanced age I have acquired a new mattress. Not very exciting, yet expensive. Also necessary.
It is raining and cold, so I have not done much else. I may buy Crysis trilogy remastered for PS4 and PS5.
I do not think I am old enough to fit in with the mid afternoon 'spoons crowd. Yet. Maybe next year.

I am intrigued about rewarding a town for stabbing its MP.
How many people would have to be stabbed for Middlesbrough to gain city status?

I'm in a 'Spoons! This is probably the most depressing place I've ever been in 'Spoons pubs, perhaps more than any other chain, vary enormously in quality. There are some in spectacular buildings, such as the Opera House in Royal Tunbridge Wells, the Caley Picture House in Edinburgh or The Palladium in Llandudno. Others are total shitholes. My Croydon local alas falls into the latter category.

Note that all the pictures show the buildings sans clientele.

It's not here either; I'm glad of that as I'd be tempted to plant it to see if it would fertilise my mate's fig tree

What if the stabber was a member of the Southend for City Status Society? Have we given in to Terrorism?

Has the spoons bloke stopped moaning that he got his way and then made less money? You thought the other company people would have told him or did they just want him to embarrass himself?

Is there a piano in our house? Yes. Can I play it? Not really, no. A few chords - that I don't know the names of. I can connect said piano to a computer or iPad via USB and use as a midi controller and play big pads and pretend I'm Aphex Twin or Vangelis.
I used to be able to read music but that was a long time ago. I can program drum machines and muck about in sequencers.
Had curry for dinner and my plans of eating all the Katsu chicken were foiled as the child liked it. *shakes fist at cloud*
Still wet out.

Greenock is attempting to go for city status. More slashings than stabbings though. Does that make a difference? An added side portion of Arson to your victims house seems to be all the rage too.
