I went to a private school for primary school. It was tremendous. Teachers watching the boys shower to make sure we were 'clean', a whole set of basement tunnels under the main school, a bursar, the boarders had 'trunks' that they could pack with supplies for the term away from their parents who didn't want them. Matrons, a massive dining hall where we ate lunch and did prep. A woodworking teacher who was fired for hitting boys who didn't listen, teachers who threw chalk at us. Top banana.

Oh, and I've possibly become a PS5 wanker. Supposed to arrive within 14 days. If you don't have one yet, this is a tremendous excuse to also buy a massive 4K TV to take full advantage of it. Disc or discless? Simply has Demons on disk for half the price it is on the psn store.

I had wanted discless but they make less of them so got with Blu-ray.
We don't have a 4k telly yet - But I'd be pushing my luck there with the PM. Once I've paid off Xmas/the PS5 that will be my next project.

This morning:
Sony, Very, EE and Game all had them.
I nearly got one from Sony - but I had given them fake address info years ago. By the time I corrected it and added my credit card they were sold out. Much gnashing of teeth and swearing. I got mine from EE.
The stock-checker.com discord bot has been very good. That's how I got mine. Pings you when they're aware of stock.

I also used to go to school. I'm assuming the teachers all had names, although I don't remember any of them now.

I hurt. A lot. But that's boring even me. More interesting is that I have consistently had about 80% of my visits done by black Nurses for most of this year, even though the proportion of white to black is actually 8:2... That suits me, as they are generally better and kinder. I was told by my favourite nurse that they do have racist patients. This isn't uniformly true; one black HCA was diabolical and clinically dangerous - I made a deal with the team's manager that she would put her on retraining and never, ever send her again if I would not make a formal complaint. My concern was not for me, but for the often mentally troubled patients that had no defence against that kind of maltreatment. I was passing time looking for interesting / amusing stuff when I found this brilliant Lego project - one for you and your lad amipal ?

Come to think of it, there was one teacher who encouraged us to use his first name, but he subsequently turned out to be a right old wrong'un. sandybahookie will probably know who that was since iirc we were educated at the same institution. Alan....shudder

We had a really inspirational teacher at my school. He inspired in many of us to live life free from convention and cliche, to seize the opportunities life offered us. He inspired us to genuinely question society and our place in it. Most of all, he inspired in us a love of poetry -- a group of us used to meet in secret to read poetry together, especially Walt Whitman.
Ultimately though, his methods and individualism were disruptive. His actions led to children being expelled and abused, and unfortunately to one young lad killing himself. He was sacked, of course, but such was his sway over our young minds that even as he left we still insisted on a rather naive demonstration of affection and loyalty for him.
Looking back, I can see how disruptive he was, and how damaging the chaos he left in his wake, and how childishly naive were we who followed him. At the time though, I had no real understanding of the consequences of his narcistic and anti-social behaviours.

I had a friend who was doing teacher training and he got a kid out of the class to tell him off.
The kid said "I'm going to get my big brother down here to see you" my pal told him "You don't need to get your brother down to intimidate me, YOU intimidate me..."

Giving Shenguin your lunch money isn't an effective telling off. No matter how awful his poetry quotes are.

To be clear Shenguin the like was for the quality of that post. When I was that age, I was both a conformist and a rebel. You can probably guess that I rebelled against meaningless commands, or injustices (thereby getting kicked out of Church, Cubs and Scouts), I was very much a loner, and I hated the bullying and thuggery that went on at my Secondary Modern and got into punch ups because I have never been able to stand by whilst some poor bugger got beaten up by a smiling sadist. But I conformed in that becoming a Captain of Cricket and Chess, School Librarian and Deputy Head Boy hardly made me a rebel without a cause. Some of the latter was down to two teachers a Ronnie (who let me study the way I wanted, needed to, and a Mr Dolley who let me take over the school library because he was happy getting extra pay for it, whilst I did the work! Best name I came across at school was Tarquin. Time for lunch ...

I just looked up W E Henley on Wikipedia who wrote Invictus - the I am the captain of my soul poem. From the age of 12, Henley suffered from tuberculosis of the bone that resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee in 1868–69That seems one hell of a long operation. Apparently he was genuinely the inspiration for Long John Silver. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Ernest_Henley

Our school wasn't really so great. Aston was maybe a bit rough, so at the end of the day the school buses would pick everyone up and drive them through the area, and you had all the local school kids jeering and throwing things at the windows. Then on the inside of the buses you had all the grammar school kids jeering back out again.
A bad scene.
One of Theresa May's advisors was a pupil at the school (in a lower year). He later described the school as 'transformational'. I think he was maybe a bit of a plum.

It's only fun if the local kids throw stones at the grammar school bus and take out the window. More amusing was the window was on an upper deck and nearly took out the stone throwers on its way down.
