What have the BBC ever done for us? Good argument for Naddine Dorries' defence. Basically a list of stuff (particularly sports) that you can't watch anymore on the beeb. Or it's that shit you don't want to. Hence Netflix, prime, sky sports etc. The news, politics and nature stuff are still all good. As is stuff like the Olympics, MOTD. And obviously Antiques Roadshow, which is the best. I don't think killing the bbc is the answer, but not sure what is. Maybe you pay a tiered % based on your income? But can opt out if you want (like you can with other paid for TV) and it's free for certain groups (eg, income under a certain threshold). Tldr, I have no idea Righto, must dash, got double history with old McCluskey!

I'm thinking of reading the books now, so I can be outraged by all the things the tv show got wrong

I didn't realise it was the final episode until near the end. It surely can't have been planned like that?
It felt like there were episodes to go* and that the story was nowhere near a finish. Then one final episode was suddenly bolted on. They reached episode five, realised it wasn't working so well and closed it all down sharpish. The Mars navy, the proto-molecule and whatever was chasing the proto-molecule all left entirely unresolved.
A disappointment.
* in this season and further seasons to go.

I'm thinking of reading the books now, so I can be outraged. Might I suggest: 1. The Angels of Lovely Lane (2016) 2. The Children Of Lovely Lane (2016) 3. The Mothers of Lovely Lane (2017) 4. Christmas Angels (2017) 5. An Angel Sings (2018) 6. Snow Angels (2019) I'm sure Shenguin can recommend which order?

I'm thinking of reading the books now, so I can be outraged by all the things the tv show got wrong The books are ok. They are written by Daniel Abraham who was GRRM's gofer. It shows. Every chapter is written from a character's viewpoint, like ASOIAF. The books are also overlong, repetitive and not that well written. There is a clear style to them which is ok and they are very readable. The books are also repetitive, not that well written and overlong. After a while it gets dull. You could halve the length of each book without losing anything significant. Sheep 2 thinks the books are not that well written, overlong and repetitive.

My working theory then, is Jeff B was reading the books. He got to book five and thought they were getting repetitive, not that well written and overlong. So he told them they've got six episodes to wrap it up. I'm assuming that's how Prime's creative decisions are made. That's why they've made Wheel of Prime, as it's not based on a book series that's repetitive, not that well written and overlong.

The best thing about the BBC is the 4K footy coverage at World Cups and Euros, I will stump up the subscription every two years to watch that. Also the kids stuff is OK
The Left has always argued the World Service is a useful foreign influence tool, but I expect that is on the wane.
In the age of Netflix etc...I do think the BEEB is a little behind the times and perhaps it is cheeky to expect a licence fee going forward. And Doctor Who is shit.

Call it the Attenborough Broadcasting Corporation and the Tories would not step to it. Even Shenguin would think twice.
