I can vaguely remember an urban legend, back in the 1980s, about someone doing so well on an arcade game, that men in black suits turned up and immediately enlisted them into special operations. Maybe that will happen after your next big PUBG win. Isn't that the plot to an 80's film? A kid nails some alien shooter in the arcade and then gets conscripted into their space war. I have of course have a dodgy back and so could not possibly be considered for war. |

I once got a sleeper from Vilnius to Warsaw. Men with machine guns got on at the border in the middle of the night to check our papers. Both countries were in the EU at this point, so it must just have been for old times' sake. Over 50's league? Or just a very rough life in Scotland? It was on the way back from watching a very rough Scotland defeat vs Lithuania, so not far off. |

Being a conscientious objecting pacifist, it's dissapointing that I won't be able to join you on the front line, but I am right behind all you under 50s who, if you really loved Britain, would be down at the army recruitment office today.
Games, quick go on uncharted LL, up to Ch5. Seems much much easier than U4, even though I'm playing on the same default/moderate level. Maybe I'm just amazing.

I'm waiting for Nursey*, who will be role-playing a vampire today as they have to have my blood ... I should add that I am probably in the part of my town, actually the county I guess, that is under the most extreme pressure - the nurses have a nominal team of 14 people. At the moment, as far as I can work out, they have 8 posts vacant; of the 7 filled posts, 3 are isolating, 1 is on office duties only, and 1 is on maternity leave. So, they are having to try and draft in agency staff, staff from other parts of the county... typically this means working up to 10h a day for the guys who turn up. They get constant calls asking them to fit in another call... *It's scheduled to be Malcolm, a Felice height, dapper black guy who is as much a friend as he is a medico - easily the best of them. But ghods know who's going to walk through the door. But none will be as hot as Vampire Willow... |

I bet it all goes on for a few months. Russian / Ukrainian hostilities. Lots of threats, sanctions. All sorts of bad business. Then, maybe towards the end of the year, we end up with British personnel involved. I've no evidence for that. Maybe I'm just assuming the worst.

There might be a few 'advisers' sent to Ukraine.
There won't be a significant involvement.
My guess is that there will be a bit of shooting and it will all settle down into a sullen nothingness much as before. There will continue to be fighting, but at a low level. Neither side wants to compromise, but no one wants a full war either.
What it does do is to make compromise harder next time.
I don't think we are at the stage of a major conflict, but in lining everyone up in strict alliances and refusing to settle border disputes it seems we (humanity) have resumed planning for a big war.

I can't imagine exactly what would draw NATO troops into Ukraine. Maybe if there was some sort of Balkan war style bad business. Maybe under the auspices of the U.N. I don't know ...
I'm not sure if it's better or worse to be a sinister war hermit in these situations.

I did read that Vlad had an agreement with China to leave things till after the closing ceremony so as to not overshadow China's big shiny Olympics.
Cut Ukraine in half, with pressure put in the cargo ports meaning Ukraine is in an economical strangehold.
