I also like hazy ipa's. Cloudwater soft and juicy I think is one I like. Hazy Jane I also like, but that of course marks me out as a wrong un. I've had a few Cloudwater beers I think. Difficult to remember them as I was involved in a serious experiment with craft beer when I had them. I am not that keen on the pricing. £4-5 a can seems excessive when other beer costs £1 a can or £1.50-£2 a bottle. It even seems expensive compared to Duvel which is £2 for a stubby or Leffe. I could have bought 24 cans of Guinness for less than the cost of 8 cans of different craft beers. I am not sure why I didn't.

I wouldn't pay £4 a can. I have, at Xmas for a few - but generally £3 is the most I'll spend.

You get what you pay for.
I think its about £3 to £3.50 for a bottle of delicious Trappist ale. You'd maybe only want to drink three though....

I like IPA's that are under 5%*
I reached a point about five years ago where I really went off generic fizzy lager. I am mocked for being some sort of hipster** by my mates who still drink Fosters and Stella. Or as they call it 'normal beer'
*I would not admit to this on the 'box discord as I would undoubtedly incur the wrath of the beer gatekeeper
**I am about as far from a hipster as it it possible to be

Or as they call it 'normal beer' *I would not admit to this on the 'box discord as I would undoubtedly incur the wrath of the beer gatekeeper **I am about as far from a hipster as it it possible to be I don't think an IPA should be under 5% really. It is not entirely clear, but it is likely that IPAs were made at 6-7%. I am prepared to accept Marstons Old Empire at 5.5% as it is delicious. Flowers IPA at 4%in the early 1990s was an abomination for several reasons. Obviously the beer at 4-5% is perfectly fine. Most of the beer I drink is in that sort of range. It allows you to drink a few without dying, I just don't think it qualifies as an IPA. Our Portland based Manc friend has some very serious opinions about beer. I don't think he is aware of the joy of a 5% PGL or a 4% session ale. Everything seems to be 7-10% and cloudy and overhopped. Some of those beers are fine. Most I've never heard of. Not every beer has to be a 9% double hopped Imperial porter style beer. Teasing him about it is a big risk. You are likely to end up with an enormous screed explaining why the beer he likes is the best.

I drink mainly Guinness in pubs these days. I think it's down to the nitrogenation process. I'd drink everything nitrogenated if I could.

Indian Pale Ale used to be just like a generic bitter, only very hoppy. So under 5 percent seems reasonable.

There are too many hipster ales now, all with fantastic looking cans and costing far too much. I think we have reached peak ale and soon the world will be flooded with unwanted cans, children playing with them in the streets, filling wheelbarrows up etc...
Also ale bores are the new whiskey bores, I could not stomach more than 5 minutes of someone bollocking on about ales.
And CAMRA are too big now. They can fuck off.

Oof, is there a difference between strong beers in hipster cans and strong Eastern European or Scottish beers? Does anyone have an in depth explanation of the merits of dragon soup?

Oof, is there a difference between strong beers in hipster cans and strong Eastern European or Scottish beers? Does anyone have an in depth explanation of the merits of dragon soup? Of course there are differences. Hipster beers tend to be cloudier and more overpriced. A lot of craft brewing is an attempt to recreate Belgian styles using slightly different ingredients. The major difference is the use of Cascade Hops which are native to the USA and are bitterer than traditional Belgian or English hops. It doesn't always show through in the end taste. I think the craft brewers tend to use more fruity flavours but I avoid fruit beers. I'm not ken on Kriek Lambics or things like melon in beer Each beer like Chimay or Duvel or Tynt Meadow or Punk IOA or Elephant Beer or Tyskie or Jupiler or Paulaner or some overpriced Craft monstrosity has its own unique flavour profile and is lovingly made to reflect this. Plus they get you pissed.
