Morning,
TV. Started the second series of the good place. Already being a bit samey but the juries out.
Games. One wee side mission in the division. Really wanted to play more but greed got the better of me as it's 2x$ on bunker deliveries in GTA. So made about half a million on that and a coke delivery. We're away Thurs - sun so I'll need to do more tonight. Crazy not to.

Morning all. Despite an early night, I barely slept - and so I'm working from home. Ruddy knackered.
More MST3K last night, "The Touch of Satan". Bloody brilliant.
Got another set subject competition coming up, "Perspective" it be. Just found a treasure-trove of shots from London in 2015 that may yield some candidates.

Mornin'
I had a shitty day at work yesterday so I wasn't home until gone 2000. By the time i'd eaten and showered I didn't bother with any telly, just hopped on the Division to do the Dailies. The DZ one was straightforward, extract 3 items, so I ran around, got a few Gold caches and a few Purples as well as any DivTech lying around. I made my way to the Extraction Point in DZ08, popped the flare and hunkered down. With 30 seconds to go before the chopper bugged out I threw my gas seeker mines out, dropped the electric shock remote gun, got my gear on the rope and made my escape. I was then pounced on by a 4 man Rogue team. I managed to get 2 of them but the 3rd got me while his oppo got my gear off the rope so it was all for nought. Summed up yesterday nicely. I then sacked it off and went to bed.
Cool story etc.

I watched a new episode from season 3 of Z Nation. Middling effort. No games. I have also given up mid week drinking.

After my apocalyptic hangover on Sunday I gave up drinking. Only until Monday though. I'm not a madman.
Good morning! I had fuck all sleep last night, and am considering telling my boss I'm going home due to terminal disinterest.
Games: bit more FFXV. I think I'm nearing the end of the main story. It's all gone very linear.

Morning, Wednesday Wigglers.
Still hanging out in Morthal. The corpse of the frostbite spider in front of the inn has meanwhile slid into the water and now disappeared completely. Instead there's now a skull knocking around in front of Highmoon Hall. The place is weird.
I've been busy with sleuthing, but I think I might have gone in the wrong direction (literally). There are a lot of interesting features nearby that merit investigating. Can't wait to be back tonight. Wish there were a weapons trader in town, but I suppose I can always hike to the Stormcloak camp to get rid of stuff.

HONK! Fuckton of new astronomical objects! HONK HONK HONK!
I’m badly back into Elite. It’s like Neptune’s Pride without all the wankers. Soothing. I need to flog some ships and take a good long look at my life choices. I also ironed six shirts. Rock and roll.

Morning!
Some selfish twat at work has infected me with a potentially lethal strain of flu. Obviously I feel the only course of action to take is to still come into the office to further spread the misery. I need drugs, hot whisky and bed*.
Game wise, it's still all about the WoW for me. 4 months until the new xpac! Who else is excited?! Oh.
We also watched the latest Kiss Me First. I'm unsure about this series, it's a little bit shit. The 'game' represented seems incredibly costly too. Budgeting hundreds of £s a month to buy the 'credits' which can be wiped out by a single bomb? Why would anyone play? Surely gaming is mainstream enough now that people actually understand what would work as a game and what clearly wouldn't.
*my computer chair and 8 hours uninterrupted (except to empty nose/ bladder/ bowels) gaming.

Mainly because all bar one of my mates dropped it and the one who does still play is offshore a fair bit. The 6 piece Nomad build lets me take an amazing amount of damage though so it's usually fine. I play a bit tactical, check the map, ping the radar etc and avoid areas where Rogues have been marked. These guys went Rogue at the last minute to fool anyone extracting. If it was just one or even two I'm usually in with a chance but a 4 was just too much. We go again....

Some good quests there....particularly one involving vamps.

Morning.
How are we all? Good? Good.
Games? Nah. None. Nada. Zilch. Other things that matter? Nope.
Why am I here, I wonder? Perhaps for the scintillating conversation and witty repartee.

In other news I've been reading up on siege equipment in antiquity (last Troy podcast), some fascinating* stuff. - Sambuca was one type of ship bound siege engine (named after the Egyptian for 'harp') - catapult wasn't invented till 4th century BC - early Assyrian battering rams had an upward angle on the ram, apparently this was more effective in damaging the walls - the first chap out of the Trojan horse fell out and broke his neck, the others used the rope ladder.
There's a podcast and/or article there fore sure...
*well....

There's an interesting Babylonian text (oracle request - long story) that lists all known methods for besieging a city. I'll have a look whether it's available online. Need to look into the catapult claim, would have thought that it's earlier, maybe depends on the definition.

Ten,
Cheers - would appreciate that! The Greeks preferred encirclement, seems Assyrians went in strong. The depictions of the battering rams do look a bit like daleks, which is something. From what i have read/am reading, Dionysus I of Syracuse was the first in the Western med to invest in siege engines in the forms of towers and catapults. He didn't use the former to just get on the walls but get into the town and get troops on top of buildings.
Any attacking army faced a real threat from people above throwing stuff down on them.
The definition I read concerning catapults differentiated from the large siege weapons which were effectively massive crossbows (presumably able to use stones). I think it's largely to do with the projectile being thrown in an arc trajectory.

If you can get a machine to throw a heavy object on an arc, then gravity does the rest. BOSCH!
I've just booked a landscape gardener to tear our garden to shreds. Soon I will have no money.

Ideal garden:
A large, reed lined and stream fed, pond with an island. A weeping willow will drift its lower leaves into the pond. Nice flower beds at the sides and back with a shed near the back. All lawn, no concrete. Large garden and all enclosed so dogs, children etc...can not get out. What I'm aiming for once retired and hopefully wealthy.
