Are we the bad guys?

I spent my working life helping oil companies destroy the planet, in my defence I was drinking most of the time.

I also did do some shit hot programming in the early days, which I'm proud of.

Yesterday I was told that my little great-nephew, together with the rest of his primary school, would be starring in some kind of Victorian-themed play. Unfortunately he was feeling poorly on the day the drama (or, as he likes to call it, 'dramary') instructor came to the school to discuss the project and missed the whole thing. Now his parents are trying to figure out from his vague descriptions what kind of dramary they are dealing with. All they know is that he and his friends are going to play lobsters and that other kids are going to be a whale and a waiter(?). My guess was that the dramary in question was perhaps Alice in Wonderland; this had also already occurred to others, in which case maybe waiter = walrus and carpenter.

So he's been learning about the Victorians but apparently the only bit of information he retained is that Queen Victoria only wore black after the death of her husband. There's still time for him to become a historian but maybe he should be looking at other career options.

I still have the assegai and the knobkerrie that were once given to my father-in-law by a veteran of the Zulu wars and that were covered in the guts and the brains of some members of the British regiment at Isandlwana (we can't be sure whether they also saw action at Rorke's Drift). The PM used to take them to work to teach students about the effectiveness of wooden weapons because in Sumerian the word "weapon" has a wood determinative and not a metal one. He used to demonstrate the technique for their use to the students by visualising a number of colleagues he couldn't stand.

oh all right,
I spent the better part of 22 years as part of a team teaching kids (and adults) how to protect themselves and feel stable about their lives at the same time.

Not really. Sounds like you were one of the problems who totally fucked up the world, knowing what you were doing, not caring, for your own gain, and causing not merely the deaths of other humans, but risking the future of humanity itself.
