Chatterbox, hello! We actually went out last night, boy in-tow and everything. It was for a surprise 40th birthday party, the timing of which fell bang-on the boy’s bed time. He’s six now, so I reckoned he’s be okay with it. Which he was: he was in his element! Just a shame he’s got a bit of a cough - a crap-night’s sleep followed. TVblog: finished The Expanse! I don’t care what anyone else says, I enjoyed the last series. If only it could have been longer though*. *just like Tuffers thing. |

*Still, it has it's moments:- Tids is in a large barn, he's just found a flare pistol. Then he notices a large group of enemy soldiers creeping towards him through some foliage. Aha! Tids fires the flaregun in their general direction, calling in an artillery barrage. How he laughed as bodies flew into the air like rag dolls, "That showed 'em", he thinks. Cocky Tids leaves the barn, looks to the right, only to find himself staring down the barrel of a Tiger II tank. "Bollocks" he thinks, as he flies through the air like a rag doll... |

I enjoyed this... but just in case you are yet to watch the Rings of Power... Someone on YouTube made some nasty comments about Sophia Nomvete after another video. I couldn't let the thinly veiled racist comments slide. This was my response: "I have read / listened to the LotR for 60 years; I loved PJ's adaptation and for the latter I waited / blocked my ears to reviews and critics said. The Simarillion is a much harder read. I watched the first 10m of RoP E1 and because the characters were so different from my visualization (especially the elves), I had to stop and let the dissonance fade. (Elron's colouring and head shape, in particular, were like a thumb in the eye and Galadriel as a warrior was another jarring note). But I let my prejudices dissipate and started again - I love it all now and I could not disagree more. Sophia Nomvete was wonderful in particular had a really important ground breaking role and she was right. Did you expect or think that she should grovel and be apologetic because she's black? ffs, I'm a white, anglo-saxon and nominally protestant, cockney. And if I can see that the role as written demands self-confidence and an enormous personality (which Sophia has and projects ) then I am astounded you can't. As for Scorched Earth's comments, very few could "create such a Masterpiece of fictional literature!" and as the series is loosely based on The Silmarillion, your comment is farcical! 🤣 The Silmarillion is not a continuous narrative and only intermittently imho touches the heights that LotR does. I've only got a few of years to live, but I am glad that I stayed alive long enough to watch this." |
