I hate going to other peoples houses, either to visit or stay over. I also hate other people coming to my house either just to visit or stay over. This is not just a Christmas thing. People are awful.

I don’t like staying at other people’s houses. Is that a bad thing? You can never fully relax. Is it the other people? Do you feel the same in a rented holiday home/AirBnB? I feel a bit better in a rented holiday home / AirBnB with other people. With Christmas it is partly the people and the place. And the length of time. I suppose a big part of it is the place. Forced into a place with people you deliberately don’t live with.

I usually get roped into dropping off Xmas pressies, which entails some banal chit-chat whilst my brain is screaming, 'I really want to fuck off now'.
Dreadful.

We avoid Christmas family politics by leaving the country, and booking it way in advance so we can say “oh you should have mentioned this earlier, we’re going away now”
Way in advance = March

I sort of wish I had a car. Then I could drive everywhere for Christmas. Stand in the doorway with the keyring looped over my index finger. Eat a mince pie. Make some passive aggressive conversation and go.

I live on my own and my only relative Is my mum. My mum is happy to be on her own at Christmas as am I. Snow would be nice but apart from that I won't want to have any visitors.

I watched the last episode of Andor last night.
No thanks. Not for me. I fell asleep during the last 20 minutes.
Jog on Andor. The last shot was good.

My dad hates Christmas almost as much as he hates foreigners/wokies/Greta. My mum is very passive aggressive at the best of times, but dials it right up at this time of year. My sister is still a bit of a mess both physically and mentally, and so isn't feeling particularly festive. And I am in protracted negotiations with the mammal who no longer tolerates me about childcare arrangements
It's the most wonderful time of the year

The best Christmas I ever had I spent alone in a massive flat near Tottenham court road, which was like a ghost town, playing Zelda on the Wii and occasionally popping out to the nearby massive M&S food hall to buy food. Top Banana.

Made a quiche. Bacon and blue cheese with caremelised onions. Thought buying a sheet of shortcrust pastry would make it easy, but it was still a proper fuckabout, took hours. Delicious, but not worth the effort. Four stars.
Xmas will be 10 of us here (my side of the family) for roast rib of beef on the 25th. Conversation will be easy, drink will flow, and they all know when to go home.
Boxing day over to the in laws in Yorkshire for 3 nights of resentment and bickering. The wine will be expensive and plentiful, but I'd rather stay at home and drink water. They're a prickly bunch at the best of times, throw a few glasses of sherry and a bit of Xmas stress at them and they're unbearable.
Still, it's only 3-and-a-bit days so how bad can it be

As I wrote that, I realised that 3 and a bit days is a full 1% of the year. Sounds much worse put like that.

If you throw sherry at them, I'm not surprised they are offish with you. It's expensive, difficult to get out of clothes and a waste of good booze.
No one wants to be unpleasantly sticky. At least not like that.

Tbh, I think Faceless is winning this one by some distance. Looks like M&S aren't doing the meal for 2 with wine for £12 any longer either. You can get two turkey dinners for £9, but Faceless will need to buy two bottles of wine to go with it. And something for Boxing Day

Don't worry about stressful festive family gatherings everyone. Comrade Corbyn, Wee Nicky Stalin and the rest of the Wokerati will have Christmas cancelled within a couple of years.
