I've had two social occasions today
Went for lunch with PM, kids and in-laws for a last minute lunch at 2pm, service was shit and didnt eat til gone half 3
Then met my mate at a Persian grill restaurant at half 5 for spicy succulent skewers of lamb, flatbread and salad, arranged for ages, before watching the footy at his house, where his wife made pizza and cocktails
Suffice to say I'm as full as a gull from Hull, and as drunk as a skunk from, er, Hull I suppose
I'd kind of like to say that the result of the match was no ones fault and that everyone tries their best, but there's a certain beaky lanky spurs prick I'd like to punch in the dick first

I was pretty certain Scubar was in The Bell at the same time as me. Decent pub, good real ales, music a bit too loud, slightly too many studenty types in there. There was a slightly overweight beardy type drinking real ale. Looked generally a but sus, and also like one of those weird Internet people I've read about. I decided it was almost definitely Scubar. Anyway, long story short, as it were, I'd punched the cunt three times before I realised it was just a fucking mirror.

A terrible 0-0 draw with one shot on target in the 90th minute.
At least we had it. We also hit the post with an open net, put one over from two yards and had two goals ruled out for offside. One of which was offside.
It was bracing in Blackpool. I did not go Christmas shopping and did not punch Scubar.
What's not to like?

I saw some of the soi disant coupe mondiale game.
England were ok, mostly, but never looked like winning. I thought France largely let England play, having taken the lead. It was reasonably close, but never felt in much doubt. Without penalties England didn't look like scoring. Or with them much for that matter.

I could point out 3 or 4 errors for each French goal but I won't. I will say England are great at dictating play, but clearly porous at the back.
For the second penalty Kane's run up was too short and he lent back too much. Real shame as the penalty shootout would have been a genuine 50/50 (i.e. the French are as shit as us).

Southgate is a mediocre manager of a potentially good side.
I don't think England have the best first 11, necessarily. What we do have is a squad which is very strong. Someone who could utilise 5 subs effectively would male England a much better side. Decisively better? I don't know. But given conservativism in big games isn't successful for England and hasn't been for ever we could possibly try new tactics.
Either that or insist on playing every game of every tournament (up to semi-final stage) at Wembley.
