I helped my dad with some demolition of drawer and desk units yesterday. One of them turned out to be the desk where I concealed jazz mags as a teenager. It has now been reduced to fundamentals and put in a skip. Were there still periodicals present? Was your shame on show? And was the demolition of this teenage-shrine cathartic? All the questions. |

I didn’t have so many. The most I had at a time was two - stashed under the bottom drawer. Quite a good hiding place really - because you had to reach in on either side of the drawer and press down to be able to remove it. The magazines were long gone, with the unit moved to another room. I had discarded one magazine down a drain grill on a road three minutes’ walk from my parents’ house (Hill Hook Road - full disclosure). Another (or others?) in a bin close to ‘Butler’s Lane’ train station. This was also close to the Arthur Terry secondary school, and I think some attendees of that school had seen the magazines in the bin and pulled them out - meaning they were strewn across the street the next day. It was odd seeing that. My furtive shame - pulled out into the open. I can’t remember where the other magazines went. Minimal catharsis this weekend. Perhaps I will experience some delayed release catharsis. |

I watched the BBC UK nature show with Attenborough. There were two slugs having sex in a tree and I will never forget it. They were hermaphrodites and once coupled, their penises expanded out from their bodies and intertwined with the other penis in a kind of helter skelter of slimy cock. Then they "exchanged semen with one another". The slugs then dropped off the tree to leave a huge slimy gunk droplet.
