Raining here and Pref.Mam. informs me that a tomato is a fruit.
Surprised no-one here mentioned that.
<edit>Though they keep claiming that a potato doesn't "count" as a vegetable, I disagree.

I think we're about to take a pounding. Thunder rolling in. A few spots of rain. I'm counting the time between Thunderbombs... Like in Poltergeist...

Aubergines, cucumbers, courgettes, tomatoes, squashes and peppers are all fruits in a botanical sense, but often classed with vegetables* in a culinary sense. Peas, beans and nuts are also fruits or parts of fruits in a botanical sense. Hops and grapes are also a fruit. Potatoes are clearly vegetables. But, yes, they're not usually counted as one of the five a day dietary advice. Wheat and other grains, and rice are also derived from the fruiting body of the plant, but bread and rice are also not considered fruits, and don't count towards your five a day. *Except for cucumbers, which are properly considered to be a poison.

There's an old saying. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.

Pasta is also not a fruit. and oranges are not the only fruit I don't copy and paste, btw. I do have an interest in the philosophy and linguistics of categorisation and taxonomy. For the branch of biology, see Taxonomy (biology). "Scientific classification" redirects here. For other uses, see Scientific classification (disambiguation). Taxonomy is the practice and science of categorization or classification. A taxonomy (or taxonomical classification) is a scheme of classification, especially a hierarchical classification, in which things are organized into groups or types. Among other things, a taxonomy can be used to organize and index knowledge (stored as documents, articles, videos, etc.), such as in the form of a library classification system, or a search engine taxonomy, so that users can more easily find the information they are searching for. Many taxonomies are hierarchies (and thus, have an intrinsic tree structure), but not all are.
