I did go to the pier on Saturday. One of my friends was down from Manchester, and had never been to Brighton before. He said he wanted to buy some sugary doughnuts from the pier. We had just finished a tasty meal and I felt I needed a coffee to counter the effects of the food and booze.
As my friend was queing for doughnuts I stood at an adjacent snack hatch with a coffee machine, but no-one was serving, so I ambled in the direction of the main section of the pier. There were two men in what looked to me like ‘bouncer’ outfits. One of them said ‘What are you looking for? Can I help?’ I said I was looking to get some coffee. He said I could get some there and pointed back to the empty snack hatch. I said no-one was serving and he said ‘come with me’ and went over. At the counter he called out to a hatch employee (who was doing something for an adjoining hatch) and said something like ‘Can you get this man a coffee’. The man looked a bit cowed and said ‘Yes what would you like?’ (or words to this effect) and I asked for a double espresso. I was quite pleased to have got this rapid service and offered a coffee to the bouncer, but he declined and walked away. Then when I went to pay the man said ‘It’s ok. It’s on the house.’ (or words to this effect).
What was happening? Has a security firm taken on ‘the door’ of Brighton Pier? I appreciated the coffee but it felt like there was some sort of power-play going on - a demonstration of bouncing muscle.

So, having evicted the snoring wasps a couple of weeks ago, I now seem to have been adopted by a muntjac deer. Little sod has been pottering about for 3 days now, even though the dog keeps rootling it out of the shrubs. Feel like I’m turning into doctor Doolittle.

Our softphone system got updated over the weekend and I can't make or receive external calls. Terrible shame.

We usually have a vegetable box delivered on a Sunday. The company who deliver it have a schtick about only delivering at night (with a conflation of economic and environmental interests). Most Sundays, at about eleven, the buzzer goes and a genial man (I think from one of the Germanic lands of north Europe) hands over the box and takes a photo of the box held by myself. If he gets there much later than that he leaves it outside the building and takes a picture of the box at this location.
No box today. There was a photo at midnight of the box outside. Outside no more.
Who does that? A food snaffler. Perhaps a neighbour will present it, having taken it in for safe-keeping. I doubt it though. I think it’s the same person who took our Blitz kitchen-roll multipack from outside the flat two weeks ago.

Maybe they though it was a "I grew this on my allotment, please take" type of deal. Though that doesn't explain the kitchen roll.
Air tag something innocuous looking and when it goes missing hunt them down with great force and baseball bats.

I can understand someone might think we will be reimbursed by the company, but its pretty inconsiderate. Maybe we were counting on that food? Also the more deliveries go missing (as a general trend) the less likely companies might be to reimburse. Or they’ll put up prices to account for it. Or stop delivering to specific addresses. I think it’s the flat down the corridor where they had the meth lab. |

I've been reading up on Bear Grylls' advice on how to survive a dog attack. It boils down to this:-
One dog: Gouge it's eyes out or smash the back of it's skull in.
Pack of dogs: Leg it up the nearest tree.
