The dish quickly became a staple of the Pictish diet and was named the "Scotch Egg," the term 'Scotch' being derived from 'Scottish,' and 'Egg' from the central ingredient. The name also honored Phemios' adopted homeland. Scotching food is the act of blending food stuffs together as opposed to just individual products, mucking, messing and hashing being other ways of saying this. The Scots didn't appear in Scotland until some time after the Picts (Pictii) had blended with the Gaels from Ireland in the South Western regions (Dal Riata) and were called Scotii by the Romans (even though the Romans didn't have a foothold in Scotland).

Probably LQL or Count Ginula.
Both had ideas about food that varied between the appalling and the actually presents a serious acute danger to health.

Just had cottage pie from the PMs maw and banana & Nutella loaf. Maw (noun): the jaws or throat of a vicious animal; informal - the mouth or gullet of a greedy person

Evening
Car was in for service and MOT today. All OK and MOT passed. I'm now £320 squid lighter. Well, I say OK, the fault with the windscreen wipers is still there. They automatically turn on when you turn the ignition even when the lever is in the off position. It stops after about 5 seconds, then I have to manually time it to stop in the down position. Needs a part ordering. So next week I'll be further £150 lighter. Mechanic dude said it was something to do "with the motor". I agreed and said "yeah I thought so". He knew I didn't have a scooby doo, but managed to refrain from openly mocking me. I'm sure he made up for it with his other mechanic mates when I'd left.
Cool story. Compelling and rich.

I'm watching Death Race 2000., Roger Corman's 1975 re-imagining of Hanna-Barbera’s Wacky Races.
But minus the violence.
