I genuinely don’t understand why Israel needs extra funding from the US. I think it already gets over three billion dollars worth of military aid a year. Does it need cash? Like giving aid to France or Germany.

All I'm saying is, the above probably puts a strain on the military spending. |

There are a lot of Russian fingerprints on recent events in the Middle East. It’s clear that Hamas had received substantial training from them in the run up to this.
Russia looking to pull attention away from their disastrous Ukraine invasion, and destabilising Gaza/Israel is a very cheap (Roubles and Russian-lives) way to do it.

I think the most recent Israeli government destabilised the situation with Gaza too. I’m pretty sure they made some pretty bellicose claims about Israeli settlement after they were voted in. A lot of the press coverage seemed to agree that it was a very right-wing / nationalist coalition ...
They should bring back the idea of a UN mandate. Give Gaza and the West Bank to America to look after. A big slice of the American dream.

I have an idea for a novel.
On the brink of World War Three a small group flee from London to the Cairngorms, (possibly in a Jaguar. Maybe, more plausibly, in a Mazda Bongo Friendee).
They eventually seek refuge amid the peaks and valleys around Ben Macdui, where they experience the presence of the infamous ‘Big Grey Man’ - the mountain spirit who haunts the area …
I don’t know how it will end. Maybe the small group hear the footsteps of the Big Grey Man crunching towards their tent, but they no longer care because they’re dying of nuclear sickness.
