It's just age. And not having kids.
The old system was much easier Infant 1,2,3 Junior 1,2,3 4 Senior 1-6. Though 6th form covers two years. There were also middle schools, but not locally. Why count 0-13 when you can count 1,2,3,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,5,6,6? It's a much more sensible system.

Hello I seem to have developed a boil on my hip. The waistband of my jeans and my belt keep rubbing against it - fucking painful. Apparently I need to use a warm damp cloth as a compress for ten minutes, four times a day. Awkward, given its position. Could be worse I suppose. I had one in the exact same position 2 weeks ago. I waited until it turned into a 'double-header' and then exploderised* it.

Ever since they changed to Year(Number) I've been confused, what's wrong with 4th year, 5th year etc? Then at least I'd have an idea of how old people were. Apparently it's 4th/5th year? Do they still have 6th Forms? Also please don't ascribe this confusion to anything sexual. But then their are 6th form colleges too. The college I went to near in the early 90s was demolished and is now another identikit retail park. Probably demolished because of the quality of they're English teaching.
