Morning all!
I’m in the office today, and not feeling it at all. A massive case of the Mondays, and it’s not even 9am yet.
TVblog: Babylon 5, the penultimate episode of the third series. PM watched Superstore.

Cold and wet out, real climb down from yesterday when I could even detect a barbeques in play.

Still got loads of beef leftover from yesterday. I'm having roast beef, red onion and mayonnaise sandwiches for lunch. An early lunch.

hello
I was playing Dragon’s Dogma II yesterday.
Is it good?
I don’t know.
What is the point of the pawns? Question questions.
It isn’t bad - at all. And it’s better than average. So it is actually good. But £60 good?
It looks good. I haven’t ever played a full £60 PS5 game before and this is visually impressive. And the storyline’s ok.
I like it more than Elder Scrolls: Skyrim but not as much as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. It’s easier than the Souls games and maybe not as much fun as the Monster Hunter games, but it has more narrative and involvement than the Monster Hunter games. It maybe feels a bit similar because they’re both by Capcom.
I absolutely want to get back to playing it now, but I’m going out.
I don’t really know what the pawns add. They’re such a big part of the game but they seem to play a lot of the game for you. I quite like being on my own sometimes.

I don't think Dragon's Dogma contains mustard. Certainly it's not an important element.
The Pawns are DD's thing. They are just NPC companions, but with an online element. A vital part of the game. Do they add anything? Yes. Is what they add worthwhile? Dunno.

Do they add anything? Yes. Is what they add worthwhile? Dunno. They're useful if you want to change vocations for either you or your main pawn so you can re-balance the party. I'm running Thief(me), Mage(mp) plus a ranger and a fighter, I want to change roles to pick up abilities from other vocations so will swap out the recruited pawns. So basically they allow you to try lots of different play styles.

Like the Header Admin, I'm particularly intrigued by the play 'Tids goes to Town', it sounds like a lost Shakespearean Tragedy/ Horror/Porn Show.

I've got a very large buxom pawn wearing very little clothing in my group. She's called cuddles. I picked her because she has a high level rating.

I think I’d rather just have the one character who levels up / progresses / diminishes in a linear way. If he dies, he dies. I can buy into the idea of having an accomplice in a game. The thing about DD is that the accomplices are pretty much given to you as blank-eyed automatons. They’re kind of seen as that in the world. Your main character is referred to as ‘main pawn’. It kind of diminishes the sense of character they have. Especially when their chat is so moribund. And tactically they’re not great. It’s not like with Mount and Blade, where you can marshal your accomplices about. I do kind of like the pawns. I liked that I could have Sheep2’s pawn join me. An attractive young woman called Bob. I didn’t like that, after I gave her a courtly tunic and breeches she just disappeared. She just left one day.

Dragons dogma 2 is magnanimous - March's 2024 GOATOTY. It took some time to grow on me, but there's a lot more going on than it might first appear. Random people will have quests for you, but it's not obvious and you just have to try talking to people. In the quests it doesn't just give you a big objective marker to follow - it shows the general area but then leaves it up to you to actually read the quest and figure out what to do.
You can also pick anyone up and throw them off a cliff. 4 stars.
