I wish I wasn’t feeling so curmudgeonly today.
In the past … when an election has broadly gone your way, you’ve had the feeling that there was a vision - an image - of the future that you liked, and that other people bought into. But there’s nothing - there’s no vision or image to buy into today. Just ‘not the Conservatives’.
I know sometimes … people say ‘It’s the hope that kills you’. And maybe that’s the thinking - remove hope from the equation so no-one can be disappointed.
Sorry for being curmudgeonly. I was up until 4.30 waiting for Tim Roca. I missed him.

Sutton Coldfield stayed Conservative. The legacy of Norman Fowler lives on. Unsurprising. My grandad can rest safely. He was a member of Sutton Coldfield Constituency Labour Party for the last 20 years of his life and a Labour member for 55 years in total. He would have been made up that it was even close. There will be no turning in the urn.

4.7% of the vote went to Remain here 🤷 Here? 4.7% of the box voted Reform? Sounds about right

Another step along the road to Farage or his successor being PM. The election, I mean, not Kane's Wordle. I can't blame Kane's Wordle for the state of British politics. I would, it's been atrocious of late..

Didn't reform come second in quite a few places? They must be annoyed, we leave and the EU lurches further right as the middle left win big here.

Another step along the road to Farage or his successor being PM. I don't see this. There is no heir to Nigel. And there won't be. He won't allow any potential rivals to grow a base on his patch. The other problem Reform have is that the only right winger who commands anything like the Nigel effect is Boris. The others are either charisma vacuums or idiots or both. And Nige is too divisive to win power. If the Tories can find an affable presentable centerish figure they'll be back. A replacement John Major or Ken Clarke or Heseltine. They'll pick up many of the votes Rishi lost and almost regardless of actual policies they'd be a big threat at the next GE. The difficulty is finding that person and persuading the party to vote for them.

The Reform party won't survive til the next GE. Like wot sheep said - farages ego won't allow it to become anything other than his mouthpiece. Once it grows to a size that he can no longer fully control he'll leave (blaming 'the establishment') and start again

You can win an election with 34 percent of the vote. It’s not inconceivable. And with fewer votes than your unpopular predecessor as leader. Starmer has won 9.6m votes. Corbyn got just under 12.9m in 2017 and 10.3 m in 2019. It is the collapse in the Tory vote from 13m to 6.6m that has has changed the result. I suppose it is possible that if the result looked closer more people would have made the effort to vote Labour. But that isn't massively encouraging. I would guess that it is relatively easy for the Tories to get back to 9 million votes Presentable (white) leader. Blame everything on Johnson, Truss and Sunak. And if things don't go that well for Labour they are back in the hunt next time.

Just been to the cafe that was formerly the stupidly priced cafe. It's now under new owners and too cheaply priced.
They're not in the best spot for passing trade. Tuna toastie with coleslaw and a latte was £6. £2.20 for a coffee is a good price, if you're getting the business.
I hope they do well, but I fear a Timos situation. They should have opened before the school year finished and picked up some trade from the yummy mummy set.

Or start a sideline in under the counter narcotics. It's greater Glasgow so that is always a strong business proposition.

Its hard to get hyped for continuity shitty Britain with a slightly less conservative party to get humped by. Different colour and branding though so that'll freshen things up.

I do hope Nigel Farage will be the next Prime Minister…. Fucks sake lazybones. I think…… With global warming the tropical latitudes of the planet will become increasingly uninhabitable: the areas will be too hot, there will be competition for water … drought, leading to conflict. There will be large population movements to the north and the south and the countries there will grow even more protective of their borders and nationalistic. A bad business. There are a lot more people in the northern hemisphere too, so the problems will be worse … in the northern hemisphere. I feel like I’m outlining a right-wing Steve Bannon style hypothesis. Am I? Will you tell me if I am? I hope I’m not. It’s just geographical speculation, from a doom-soaked perspective. Fortunately I’m awful at predicting things like this. And was not often very good at geography. It will probably be ok. But without wanting to sound like an eco-nut I think the climate situation is the pivotal issue of our time. One of them …
