hello
I am on a beach. Iβm wondering if / when I should have a Zombie 1950 cocktail. I guess no earlier than high noon. Itβs currently 10.58.
Iβm also wondering if my text message went through to the villa owner. Iβve worked out a way of securing the villa from the inside. I just need to obtain a four metre piece of rope.

Morning.
I do not seem to have a hangover or malaria or tto have been killed by death overnight. None of these applied last time i drank G&T so i am declaring this a victory.
I drank a reasonable, civilsed amount rather a reasonable amount for a civilisation !ast night.

"This just in", "Britain misses Lazy, even the weather is crying", (Weather man): "I'm not jealous that he's sunning himself on a beach with a Zombie Cocktail (Rings out summer coat), I hope he's having a wail of a time (honest)"! FYI It rained last night and today, it is officially Autumn..

Ozymandias KaneI have a question β¦ I believe that you have nautical skills and experience. Do you know the minimum qualification required to sail a yacht? β¦ To maybe book yourself onto a yachting holiday? Are there any competitively priced and reputable options you are aware of? Would such a qualification / license typically allow rental of motor boats of over 30hp? And would they be enough to become master and commander of a Dutch barge? β¦

I think I know the answer to the boat questions. I need an International Certificate of Competence, with a CEVNI β¦ addendum? For European inland waterways. Hopefully this would also allow me to pilot a small 100hp motor boat in Mediterranean coastal areas.
I know this could just be a flight of fancy. But the water levels are rising.
I got the Zombie. Itβs almost all gone now β¦

I sailed as a young teen on a 60ft and have been a deck hand/first mate on a private 30ft day sailer I didn't need a licence to be there myself just common sense and an observance of healthy and safety rules, on canal boats there are three main types that I know of - (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrowboat) - this is an accurate understanding of it. Google search AI: 'you don't need a license to drive a narrowboat for a holiday in the UK. Most boat companies provide full tuition on arrival at the marina, which can last 45 minutes to an hour. The tuition covers driving, mooring, and locks, and you'll also receive a boater's manual and a contact number for the marina. Canal boats are designed for beginners and have simple controls, with one lever for speed and direction'. 'However, you may need to purchase additional licenses to access certain waterways, such as the Scottish Canals, Rivers Avon, Thames, and Wey. You can buy short-term visitor licenses from the Canal & River Trust that are valid for one week, one month, or up to 30 days. You can also check with your local planning authority to see if you need permission for residential use or to use a mooring for accommodation'. Summary: You don't need a license to 'Holiday rent' a canal boat as there is typically a tutorial for novices etc on how. Ownership of a canal boat of any size including Dutch barges on British waterways requires a CRT license, safety certificate and marine Insurance (see above for full details), Dutch/Netherland rules are slightly different. Sailing as above, sorry I can't help more as my knowledge is limited to passenger/first mate etc. but hopefully the above will help guide you right, also Canal and River Trust for all things British canal ways. The size of the canal boat also matters so for starting off I would recommend 35-60ft max before moving up to 70-100ft due to handling qualities - rear steering like an American muscle car from the 60's on ice! Good luck Lazy, I hope you do go down this route as it is fun, I have been in charge of the boat and driven it, even though I don't drive a car I have ridden a motorbike on a provisional back in the day. I drove a barge for a few minutes on the Norfolk Broads when I was 14. Crashed headlong into the bank, but other than that, piece of piss.

I jumped from a barge on the Leeds Liverpool canal in the 80s. Misjudged how far from the canalside we were. White jeans ruined.
Just to clarify, I jumped in the water, I wasn't scared and shat myself.

Had a 2 week barge holiday starting from Godalming and going up the Thames. Had a border collie at the time who loved water. He kept jumping over the side once he had discovered we were surrounded by water.
