Hard to argue with the first Oasis album, half of the second and some of the singles. But on the other side of the scales, they did cause The Verve.

The Verge were around way before Oasis. Or just … Verve. Maybe a couple of years before. The second Verve album is really good. If you ask me ….

The Verge were around way before Oasis. Or just … Verve. Maybe a couple of years before. The second Verve album is really good. If you ask me …. Yes that is true. I don't know their first two albums. What I remember is that they were not very famous until the second Oasis album, on the liner notes of which Noel waxed lyrical about Richard Ashcroft. Next thing you know, all the music journalists were saying 'Bittersweet Symphony' was the most incredible and innovative piece of pop music ever written. I bought the single without hearing it because of all the fuss. When I listened to it was the moment I realised that Britpop was just an unsustainable bubble. From there it was the inevitable decline from Robbie Williams to Starsailor via Keane, and Des Lynam being elevated to the status of a deity. Urban Hymns was the unavoidable soundtrack to all that.

I liked the first two Verve albums. A Storm in Heaven and A Northern Soul are great and the compilation. Once they became The Verve things went downhill rapidly.
I was not a fan of Urban Hymns. I liked The Drugs Don't Work, but the rest of the album is drudge Indie by numbers. Bittersweet Symphony is ok, but the good bits are The Last Time by the Rolling Stones. Also Alan Klein gets 100% of the royalties from Bittersweet Symphony. They failed to clear the use of the tune and he screwed them properly in court.
The rest of their stuff is dull as well. I think i had the first Richard Ashcroft solo album. It's properly dull. Not awful. Just completely uninspired. He had ideas for two good albums, but unfortunately became successful afer using all his good ideas.

I think seeing Oasis at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall was the first time i thought Britpop might be on a road to ruin. This was maybe in part because they were supported by Ocean Colour Scene.

Tbh Dayreamer and The Dugs Don't Work sound more interesting than the originals. I'm still ill. It's unfair to take the piss out of me. I think Dr Crankcaller made the correct diagnosis. I might not go to the football tonight.. I am no longer explosive, but I am achy. In a way that makes sitting outside for 2.5 hours not seem like plan A. Even after the little white pills. This is a big blow. The last time I missed a home game they cancelled all football. It is on Sky, so i can still watch it. Not an ideal compromise.

The most muscular neck in League 1.

Ocean Colour Scene I saw around the time of "Sway". They were great. Like a Young Tuffers (r.i.p) Mick Jagger up front.
After that, not so much.

Apparently the Carnage run has gone through town. Starting from Germany and Austria then tour of Europe England Wales and Northern Ireland before returning to Germany. I'm guessing they are headed for Anglesey to get the ferry. Criteria for entry car costs no more than 500 euros, 20 years old and at least 300,000 miles on the clock. One was spotted taking a piss behind a hedge in Morrisons carpark. Sounds like heaps of fun.

I saw Ocean Colour Scene at Belladrum in July. They were ok. Not interested in seeing Oasis, fuck that. Noel is a prick, Liam is not as much of a prick. But theyre not getting my money.
