Morning
Some Fortnite. Slaughtered some rank amateurs. Barely worth the effort. It slows my levelling up. I might struggle to over level 1,000 for the season now..

What happened to the aerated concrete scandal? The way the news agenda darts around - perpetually scandalised but not often … really … following things through … The wheel turns, does it not? Ukraine, Gaza, Biden, UK election, Harris… the news cycle must churn. At least we’re not being subjected to daily Tory scandal anymore. Bit of a relief.

I'm calling for an inquiry into Shenguin and Sheep's Wordle results. They are identical and a bit suss.

Eric Pickles is a lying useless cunt? Who knew. On X he praised the report and gave his thoughts and prayers to the victims. Whist also heroically locking the post so no one can reply.

Today's word is very close to Shenguin's starting word. He was always going to get 2 today.
I vary my starting word. Inever use Shengjin's word, but iused a simi!ar word today. It gave me the result in 2.
There is certainly no collaboration. Though if Shengers posts his answer first I sometimes use the knowledge from his line 1 to inform my guesses. I did my wordle first today.
TL;DR? Tids is shit at Wordle.

Kid 2 had her first day at school today. Went well until she was showing off with a hula hoop and fell and grazed her knee. I threw sand in another child's face on my first day at school. Little shit had damaged my sandcastle. I didn't have any trouble from him after that. It might even have been a pre-starting acclimatisation day. I was generally pretty well behaved I think. Once I had established who was boss anyway.

My data recovery has started today.
Long story short, I’ve a duff external hard disk. It previously wasn’t duff, and was used to store the RAW files for my photography* However, now it’s very flakey, and fails to mount quite often.
I asked my mate* where they send fecked disks, and he passed my details onto a data-retrieval company. Their quote? £279 to look at the disk; £900 to get the data off of it. Then additional costs for replacement disk and postage.
And so now I’m having a go myself. So far I’ve recovered 312 files from our Cornwall holiday this year. The disk has a habit of mounting for an hour or so, then dropping off the USB bus. Annoyingly, my manual backup (which I’d have sworn was more recent) only has files from 2021 at the latest.

This is why I never bother saving anything or backing things up. Or keeping stuff. Let it all exist in the moment. Ephemeral. Then discard it and move on

You need at least two copies of all data you want to keep. That is why I have such a ridiculous amount of storage. I'm thinking of getting a new big HD next time they are reasonably cheap.

amipalHow big is the drive and how full? If you're getting an hour you could try making an image of the drive, then unplugging and mount the image - then try to recover from that?

Oops. You need at least two copies of all data you want to keep. That is why I have such a ridiculous amount of storage. I'm thinking of getting a new big HD next time they are reasonably cheap. I thought I had it all sorted: 1 x 3TB disk to copy photos to 1 x 3TB disk as my Time Machine backup for the system disk Then a dual disk RAID enclosure, with 2 x 3TB disks where I’d backup the photo drive to, the RAID taking care of duplication. The weak point in this plan was the need for me to manual copy files from the Photo drive to the RAID disks… I have no idea how said backup is so out of date. I’d been ensuring that copies were done once a month. And yet the latest I have is 2021! To say I’m angry with myself is an understatement.

3TB discs? Are you living in the 2000s? My smallest risk is 8TB and I'm thinking of replacing it.
Since covid though prices are all over the place.
