Oops. You need at least two copies of all data you want to keep. That is why I have such a ridiculous amount of storage. I'm thinking of getting a new big HD next time they are reasonably cheap. I thought I had it all sorted: 1 x 3TB disk to copy photos to 1 x 3TB disk as my Time Machine backup for the system disk Then a dual disk RAID enclosure, with 2 x 3TB disks where I’d backup the photo drive to, the RAID taking care of duplication. The weak point in this plan was the need for me to manual copy files from the Photo drive to the RAID disks… I have no idea how said backup is so out of date. I’d been ensuring that copies were done once a month. And yet the latest I have is 2021! To say I’m angry with myself is an understatement. Still, those 2021 photos are pretty safe. Silver linings and all.

amipalHow big is the drive and how full? If you're getting an hour you could try making an image of the drive, then unplugging and mount the image - then try to recover from that? For Disk Utility to create an image of the disk, I’d need 3TB spare… Sacrifice one of the RAID discs, remove it and use it with a USB to SATA adaptor? Or try a different connector for the disk that isn't mounting properly?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

3TB discs? Are you living in the 2000s? My smallest risk is 8TB and I'm thinking of replacing it. Since covid though prices are all over the place. They were adequately spec’d for data growth requirements - I still have ~290GB spare on the Photo disk. They certainly weren’t cheap at the time either.

A hard strike with the heel of the palm always worked with wonky TVs in the past. No reason it shouldn't work with other electronic equipment. I believe that hitting it shakes up the electrickery and clears any blockages in the flow of the afore mentioned electrickery.

Too busy making sweet content to backup. The influencers problem.
You need off-site storage as well. iCloud is too dear and not really backup.
I'd have used super-duper or carbon or even clonezilla to image it. They compress the file and don't image the empty space - though is your drive encrypted?
I've lost photos before. I too was raging at myself.

Have you tried free online storage from Sergey and friends? They have recently worked with tfl last weekend and the NHS and banks previously.

Amipal doesn't want Sergey and the lads getting their hands on his 15s out of 20 folder. They'd leak the lot to Ken Scott faster than you could say 'Julian Assange'.

I want to get my laptop keyboard fixed.
What is the very least I should do to stop the laptop repair people stealing my identity and destroying my life? I was thinking I might just format it. I’ve downloaded my important documents to a 64GB memory stick. That’s all the memory you need. You can’t go wrong with that.

Good to hear you're using a GB memory stick and none of that foreign rubbish.

Didn't the keyboard mess up on your original 'Jumper' and you bought a newer one?

Didn't the keyboard mess up on your original 'Jumper' and you bought a newer one? True. But I used a bluetooth keyboard for a while until a bargain came up on Amazon which i couldn't resist. And preiously i also successfully replaced a keyboard on a refurbished Lenovo. Until the screen fucked up which was a step too far.

My laptop is a Lenovo, and I’ve got round the problem by using a Bluetooth keyboard.

Is it a Lenovo Legion™? I have a Lenovo legion.
They make a hell of a cracking sound when opening the base. I've done it twice to upgrade RAM and hard drives. Wincing now thinking about it.
