Scots and Welsh hating the English? This is news to me.

So, Croatia stand between England and the final. I noticed lots of Scots, Welsh and Irish supporting Sweden today which I genuinely don't understand as if one of those made it this far most English would support them. I guess it's like your mate pulling a stunning girl in a club, deep down you're obviously seething with jealously, but you still got to be supportive and stuff. There's a reason for singing Flower of Scotland at tournaments, you know... Would be weird for the Scots to sing a song about having "rebellious Scots to crush", I guess?

It's widely recognised that sporting success will improve a country's national mood and provide a boost to the incumbent government.
I watched the match yesterday in a pub stuffed full with revolting Kents. I'm familiar with football fans, am one, and like being in football crowds. However, rarely have I felt such utter stabbing contempt for the sort of [redacted] that live in Kent as I did yesterday: nationalistic, obscene, misogynistic, loutish [redacted].
I found some comfort in the idea that as a liberal metropolitan elite I am basically relatively well-cushioned against the risks of Brexit and the putrid injustices of the Tory government, and the stupid Kents who vote for self-harm are probably going to get the worst of it.
Suffice to say, my brief foray into patriotic fervour is over already. (I'm fairly certain my sneering contempt is caused by people voting for Brexit and Tories, not the other way round, btw.)
In other news, I had a nice swim in the sea this morning, and now I feel all calm, refreshed and not at all angry. Oh . . .

Morning all.
Spent the evening at A&E again with the boy. He fell off the sofa awkwardly and hurt his wrist - a buckle rather than a break.
Trying to get a splint on an almost two-year-old and keeping the arm immobile? An impossible task.
@babyfark Top-tip: if your child decides to make a slide out of sofa cushions to climb up and then throw themselves down, nip it in the bud there and then.

Hope the boy's wrist is ok. I suppose that's how they learn to take and manage risks, but a bit of a bummer for your Saturday night.

I'm in Cornwall, where it's so hot we are having to keep the crisps in the fridge. End times.

England are in a World Cup semi-final, it's a beautiful summers day, and I'm sat indoors with the curtains closed playing Dark Souls. Sometimes, life is good.

The English sporting media and the pundits are what make most Scots want England to lose. I think the agreed method is penalties in the final.
Tbf - if you're a Man U fan from say Kent and Liverpool are in the champions league final do you want them to win? Maybe aye maybe no. I've not got anything invested in football emotionally so England winning would not upset me. It would please some of my English friends so there's that.
Ironically some of the folk I know who complain the most about always hearing about 1966 would tell you about the Lisbon Lions at the drop of a hat.
Morning.

I've spent the last couple of days air-conning my balls and playing video games and drinking cider. I fully expect to expire shortly.

Have you gone for a split system air con or a heat pump system? I'd be interested to know what your Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is, if you know it?

Talk to me about Air Con.
I’ve convinced the wife, if I pay for it of course, to fit Air Con to the bedroom over the winter.
I saw a quote for £700 which I might take up.
In other news, this week I’ve been to the London werlands Centre, a Lavender Farm in Kent ( run by a Galway girl who shy’d away from my Brexit question), saw the play Everybody’s Talking About Jamie - broadcast from the West End to the Duke Of York picturehouse in Brighton, had chips on the beach at midnight, went to Charleston House, IKEA Croydon (the fastest trip around IKEA I’ve ever done and I went backwards against the flow for my second spin) and on Saturday had some old Chatterboxers (Lazy, Pootle, Rusty, Ziploc and ElQuesoDiablo) round to mine to play 7th Sea - a pirate role playing game, and then we stopped to watch the footy.

morning all,
Did not want the Russians, sensed there would be foul deeds afoot were we to play them. Earlier someone mentioned how it's always handy to use the mood of a nation to pass stuff under the radar. Apparently Putin raised VAT halfway through one of Russia's early games when they were winning. Not a trick missed.
Been to the gym, cleaned the car and this afternoon I will resist downloading Fortnite and carry on with some Assassins Creed Origins.

Unfortunately I think he's a bit too young to learn from this particular mishap! But thanks for the thoughts. We've managed to bribe him into wearing his splint by allowing him to choose stickers to put on it. Bribery is sometimes the only option.
